If that was true, IFP wouldn’t be publishing at all. Danjaq own the characters in their entirety.
Didn’t know that. Thank you for the info, I still want 2-3 continuation novels filmed faithfully.
I’d like some film novelizations too. Ironically, the novelizations were some of the best continuation novels cough cough James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me. I think all of Craig’s films should have novelizations (even Casino Royale).
Danjaq owns the characters, but IFP and EON own and manage different versions. IFP has complete control over literary Bond, whilst EON has control over anything filmed. I’m not sure if the animosity is still there, but I know that IFP (back when it was glidrose) had a massive falling out with Cubby Broccoli over the Per Fine Ounce/Colonel Sun saga. However, with Spectre having major portions of its story ripped straight from Colonel Sun, perhaps the relationship isn’t as icy as it once was. I mean, IFP have more or less adopted EON’s cadence for major releases…
I know and if he stays done, he’s gone out with 3 (near perfect) entries. I rank Trigger Mortis, Forever and a Day, and With a Mind to Kill all as some of the best James Bond novels since Fleming. That said, I wouldn’t mind him being lured back for a 4th. Perhaps, this time he could do a present day James Bond novel.
From another James Bond Forum.
First Comment: Let’s say that Nolan does direct Bond 26 and it is a faithful adaptation of a Fleming novel, set in the past. Which Fleming novels do you think would be the most likely candiates to be turned into Bond 26? Let’s speculate! I can imagine several different approaches:
- Adapting them in order. Very unlikely as CR was pretty recently already turned into a highly acclaimed film that was pretty faithful to the novel.
- Blofeld trilogy. Pretty unlikely, IMHO, for two reasons: Blofeld was already in the last two Bond films. And although YOLT has not had a faithful adaptation yet, TB did have one that followed the novel relatively closely, and OHMSS had an even more faithful adaptation already.
- Adapting a book that has not been faithfully adaptated yet. As some have said before, Moonraker might be the most likely candidate of this category.
What do you think?
My Opinions:
I think if Nolan is in charge it will be an original story. He is almost too much of a fan to adapt a full novel. He’ll definitely take a few references from Fleming’s books. With Blofeld, it would be shocking to me (in particular if he writes and directs more than one), if Nolan didn’t use him as a villain in some way or another. Considering his love for OHMSS and TSWLM, which has a Blofeld-like villain. Thanks, Kevin McClory.
Second Comment: Yeah, I think it’s gonna have to be an original story, no matter how inspired by parts of the novels.
Honestly, the closest thing I can imagine story wise to a period piece Bond 26 directed by Nolan is Forever and a Day. I’m not actually the biggest fan of that novel incidentally, but it’s got some interesting ideas (certainly a much stronger female lead than what Nolan usually offers).
My Opinions:
I keep saying that’s one novel that should be adapted for Bond 26 or a Bond reboot in general. Anthony Horowitz could help write it, as long as it’s set in modern day, ironically. Nolan hasn’t really dealt with villains dealing drugs, aside to a minor degree in Batman Begins.
The continuation novel I’d like to see Nolan adapt is Carte Blanche. It’s a Bond origin story. A doomsday machine is the villain('s) main goal. Doomsday machines are a recurring theme in Nolan movies. Lastly, it has an ensemble cast. That could have bigger roles in sequels. Nolan always has a great cast of ensemble greats. I’d like to see Mary Goodnight get a cinematic redemption. Felix Leiter can get a true action scene for the first time since LTK. It’s time for another female villain, in Felicity Willing. Lastly, I’d like to see Severan Hydt his curly beard and hair, and his long fingernails.

I’d support her as Q, also as Charmian Bond or May. Maybe even in the future as M.
I’d say the chances of any of this are on a par with finding a virgin in a maternity ward. (Tree)
I know, be to paraphrase Brad Whitaker, I’m just guessing and playing the future battle as I would. It’s fun to speculate. Unlike Brad and his no military experience, I have a small amount of different media experience.
Maybe even just a tease or an announcement of a future announcement might be an option.
“In November of 2025…JAMES BOND WILL REURN.”
We’re all allowed our speculation and/or hopes.
There’s still the SAG strike to be rectified.
That one, fortunately, seems to be going quicker than the writers strike. I’m guessing because actors striking has a more immediate impact on productions than the writers strike did.
True, but at least production can move along while the actors are striking. EON need to get moving if the film is going to be out before 2027. It’s crazy that most of the full and post production can be done in less than a year, but everything else takes so long. Maybe IFP can get their act together and announce a new novel if nothing else because god probably doesn’t even know when we’ll get an update on IOI’s game.
However, there is no one who can force EON to release a new Bond film at a certain date.
They can and will take their time. And I would be majorly surprised if they diluted the start of the reality show with any announcement of the new movie.
Starve the market, never give out too much at the same time.
Between the years 1946 and 1952, Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed eleven movies, writing/co-writing/rewriting eight of them, and making script contributions to the other three. Included in this run are ALL ABOUT EVE, A LETTER TO THREE WIVES; THE GHOST AND MRS MUIR; NO WAY OUT; and PEOPLE WILL TALK.
We are in an age of bloat/entropy.
True. But to be fair Mankiewicz did not shoot an action blockbuster in several countries with complicated stunts.
In honor of James Bond Day today I want to say to everyone here, thank you for reading my opinions. I know I can get silly at times. However, I’m thankful that I can share this great character (among other things), with you all. Here’s hoping for a great future of James Bond adventures!
I’m happy to hear your opinions, even if I don’t agree. I think (hope?) we have good conversations. CBN is the best at making it a healthy conversation.
Indeed. We don’t (or shouldn’t) come here for validation, we come here for discussion and good discussion requires a range of opinions. We may not always agree but we as long as respect differences then everything’s good.
The mutual understanding of everyone being willing to “agree to disagree” is part of what makes this forum a great place.
Sure, there’s been a few unpleasant individuals (who have then either been put in my cross hairs or we’ve released Jim upon - poor bastards) but overall, we’re a great bunch…
Of exactly what, I’ve no idea…
So, straight from BB: a long way until a new film will be made.
And in the meantime… the reality show, with relaunches in other countries around the world.
Folks, hang on to your DVDs and Blu-Rays or digital streaming versions, because we will have to rewatch the existing movies for at least five more years.
I entertained the idea they’re secretly working behind the scenes despite what is publicly stated, but I’ve put that idea to bed. Project 007 will be out long before Bond 26 it seems, and whoever gets cast in the lead role hasn’t been mentioned by any of the clickbait websites.
