Reboot? Remake? Retro? Which direction should the series take next?

And make that hat blue again…

Fair to say I don’t think we’ll be seeing Zack Snyder directing Bond in our lifetime (at least I hope not) but I find it depressing this notion of ā€œBond has to be completely new/differentā€ā€¦ or by re-booting again they’ll just have to do another origin story by default. Not just this quote from Snyder but the recent rumor about a Bond film starring past/present Bonds. After the Craig era I certainly don’t want ā€œsee how he became Bondā€ again over the course of the next 15 years.

For the better part of five decades the films had a winning formula. At its best we got films like The Spy Who Loved Me and GoldenEye – even Casino Royale, despite taking a radically different approach, still preserved the integrity of a classic Bond movie (and getting Martin Campbell to direct it certainly helped). Yes there were some derivative films that bordered on self-parody over the years, but I still appreciate and watch those movies.

For the record my concern isn’t the casting of Bond himself – I’d be open to a younger actor playing the role, or someone completely out of left-field – but moreso taking a generic concept for an action movie (like Snyder’s) and slapping the 007 logo onto it.

A dream team for me would be Anthony Horowitz, Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve writing together. Someone else could direct, if none of them couldn’t already do it. As I said, wishful thinking. It’s always hard for me to put a cast and crew together for a Bond movie: You have to be realistic, with a bit of surprise.

I just know I want new content to properly anticipate and discuss so I can channel my lifelong Bond fandom in that direction. We have a world full of devotees in a holding pattern just waiting to be reawakened.

Even getting Project 007 details and/or imagery would tide me over for a bit, along with more encouraging commentary on the Bond 26 front. But so far, nothing.

Weā€˜ll have to keep it going just based on our memories…

Let’s look at the bright side of it: 007’s comeback to the big screen after this long hiatus will have to be something exceptional and unique. They will have to aim for a defining entry, something to pave the way for Bond’s next decade and beyond.
Putting Bond back on the map for a whole new generation and seasoned hardcore fans alike.

Whatever it will be, whenever it will finally happen, it surely won’t be business as usual.

I hope.

Wondrously stated.

As the Prince says in THE LEOPARD (using my best Burt Lancaster voice): ā€œThings must change, so everything can stay the same.ā€

Those among us who have reached a certain age have some experience in this exercise. LTK → GE = 6 years, in we have only half of that by now. And we didn’t have the interweb to feed us at least bits and pieces evrey few days.

It’ll pass.

After LTK I did lose interest because I thought Bond is done. And none of my friends were interested anymore.

Iā€˜m grateful we have this site.

That winking fish to me felt like a farewell - and not in a sad kind of way either. The natural end of a good time; you’re a bit sad it’s over, but mostly happy it happened at all.

With all that happened after ā€˜89 many of us had their very own real-life thriller going on for years. I didn’t even trawl the newspapers and weeklies for information about Bond. Yes, I missed Bond in the summers. Much like I missed the six weeks summer break. But I had entirely accepted Bond, like my schooldays, was over.

I loved Timothy Dalton and every year wondered will there be another with him. Then I started to wonder, how long will the wait be before there is any Bond film?

I can still remember the excitement around the first teaser trailer. It clearly announced, Bond is back and he’s cool again! I think it will be very important for Eon to do something like this or like the Casino Royale teaser which made clear the direction they were taking with a new Bond.

The editing and the music from the GE teaser still hold up incredibly well. They really came out all guns blazing with classic Bond after the hiatus, well and truly earning the resurrection of the franchise.

Maybe this is what these 2 were discussing a few weeks ago?

At this point, just let him do it already.

Nolan directing a Bond movie is an intriguing idea. I just hope it can happen in the near future. Reinventing Bond to a new generation? Nolan could certainly do it.

It is the best moment for it. New Bond, straight from his Oscar, series wanting a slight shake up…

Also, Nolan has that slightly futurist/surrealist spin in most of his work; something that might play very well with Bond. Especially when the series needs a new direction, a twist away from the past.
