Sadly, this doesn’t seem to make it into any English language news outlet, despite the fact that she was quite successful in the USA. French-Italian-German singer, actress and entertainer Caterina Valente has passed, aged 93. Unfortunately, her German audience (where she had her main career) didn’t like her singing Jazz or in English at all, instead she had to sing mostly stupid Schlager music to keep her career afloat.

Just look how she gives Dino a run for his money, while doing some incredible guitar work, singing in a foreign language and being incredibly funny.

Au revoir, Catrin

From the army of actors whose whole ambition in their careers it is to make every part, no matter how small or insignificant, shine. If at all possible.

A shame. I have fond memories of ‘The Lion’s Game’ and liked his wry style.

Indeed all his books. But my absolute favourite by a country mile is the much re-read Gold Coast. RIP.

I had absolutely no idea that one of her two sons is Toby Stephens (from DAD) :exploding_head:

What is nice is that there are so many appropriate memorial screenings to pick from:

THE HONEY POT
TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT
BED AMONG THE LENTILS
GOSFORD PARK
QUARTET
SISTER ACT

I saw her on stage three times: “Night and Day” by Stoppard; Lettuce and Lovage" by Shaffer; and “Three Tall Women” by Albee.

Very sorry to hear it. I think I first saw her in TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT back in the day. Many fond memories of her. A loss.

So many memorable roles by Dame Maggie over the years. I can only hope that when I die, just one person remembers me with the same respect and admiration that she has earned from her millions of fans and her many colleagues around the world.
