Seems to be the first time the characters in the film know it’s happening; Is that the definition of meta-textual?
A lot of theorising that the film will lead us to believe they are trying to stop this atrocity from actively happening but they are really traveling forwards through back in time to stop the genesis of the event after it happens in the future/past - whether they know this or not?
And they run into an alternative timeline where Danny Boyle’s Bond film has just been released… nah, actually I’m pretty happy with the one we’ve got coming from the look of it! Tenet trailer looks awesome tho so pretty pumped for that as well! I’d say things are shaping up nicely for 2020.
Twelve Monkeys, Terminator… if that’s the best notion Nolan can come up with…!
Anyone else see the IMAX preview? Stressful watch. It looks incredible.
Heading to the BFI to see it today! By the way, specifically there, as well as in 5 venues in the US (two science centers, the Lincoln Square IMAX in NY, AMC Metreon in San Fran and Universal Cirywalk in LA) the prologue is screened from 70mm film.
Saw it before Star Wars. Solid spy stuff, then the scene where the car accident goes backward in time. Wow!
Nolan always likes to play with linear time in his movies. This could be very interesting.
He’s messed with the characters perception of time in momento and Inception. He’s messed with time narratively in Dunkirk and he’s messed with time itself in interstellar.
Not sure what’s left, so the question is which of the above aspects of time will Tenet mess with?
By the looks of it (though I dont see Syncopy revealing anything in a trailer) it’s the characters dealing with time progressing from Effect to cause.
I agree!
The fact that it’s being pushed (though possibly not by Nolan) as a ‘spy’ movie involving terrorism suggests some mcguffin mechanism that effects time’s arrow, leaving the protagonist to figure find the source in a reality that keeps shifting at the will of the villain (Branagh!?!).
It’s the same predicament guy pearce was in in memento. But that was a state of mind, whereas as this would be time itself reinventing. Washington will need to do more than tattoo his name on his own arse, but it’s a similar obstacle for the hero.
“Denzel’s son”
“Phew, I’m safe! Dad’s got this!”
I mean in this one it seems as though events are happening forwards and backwards at the same time and backwards things are affecting the forwards thing and vice versa - ie: the car chase with the enemy cars driving backwards etc… what could be a backwards attack on Pattinson and Washington at the end of the trailer - they also seem to be using physics in a similar way - with Pattinson and Washington seemingly flung unnaturally from the ground etc… possibly as a result of an equal/opposite backwards event
Absolutely - it seems that someone has found a way to reverse things within the same timeline. Which is in intriguing problem: what if your enemy could reverse actions in real time? And I don’t mean by lying.
Caine talking on a range of subjects.
In regards to Tenet, it seems his role is small, with him doing only a single day of filming.
As of right now, Tenet is “the last blockbuster standing” as the largest release still on its initial release date; something cinema chains want to keep;
This is pure speculation on my part - but I could see (as the world blatantly isn’t going to be fixed by July) Tenet being pushed by WB to be made a launch title WB’s new streaming service;
However I can see Nolan being against it - given his feelings on support for theatres (just scroll up a bit) with him rather wait until there is some semblance of normality.
An HBO Max debut is not happening in a million years The only way it doesn’t release in July is cinemas still being closed - in which case yeah he will wait.
I’d say any other director than Nolan, and WB would insist it goes to streaming. A desire to keep Nolan on good terms is probably going to get this delayed. So far the difference between stream and delay has been the studios relationship with the production company.
By July the second wave due to the loosening of restrictions will be there.
Nolan will not want a streaming release and delay.
And they all hesitate to announce their new strategy because they are still afraid of cinema chains should a miracle occur.
