Ah come on. Everybody has to look like a model today. From superheroes to lawyers even to police in tv everybody wears fashion and has a 500 dollar haircut. And I don´t doubt Lively´s acting ( I liked her in Coraline and the shark movie ) or the style in the film, it just doesn´t help you selling it to the masses…
Showing a certain mileage actually can help selling a film - and the male example from last year would be THE JOKER. The audience likes glitzy, no doubt. But they don’t stay away because of a little rough imagery, I don’t think so.
I’ve rewatched THE RHYTHM SECTION’s trailer and I really think it comes across as a Bourne ripoff, unfairly or not. Bourne is by now old news and, while the loss of family is mentioned, it feels not connected to the rest of the trailer. An excuse more like. I truly think this could have been better sold.

Nice examples. Both not action thrillers, but I understand what you mean.
Or let’s look at it from another direction: cast Emily Blunt, make her look like the sunrise, the way she looks in practically everything. Is there indication this would have fared better? I don’t quite believe it, mainly because it would still not be immediately obvious how this is different from a number of other flicks.
So you would do Salt 2 with Emily Blunt? Sold 
But I guess they beat you to it already and called it a quiet place 2
A lot of this talk reminds me of a movie I think is criminally underrated - “The American.”
It was advertised more as an action thriller. If you went in expecting that, you would be disappointed. But if you knew it was going to be the slow burn drama it is, it’s fairly good…

I’m not trying to compare it to other movies or comment on it’s financial performance. I’m just saying I enjoyed it.
I saw it at the time strictly because it was a George Clooney film, and expected it to be more like a John LeCarre spy novel than Bond.
I never thought anybody went into it thinking it was like Bond, just, as I said, an action thriller…

Underrated or not the performance is important because now it looks like the fans who liked it don´t get a sequel…
I think the ending is what meant fans who liked it won’t be getting a sequel…
Actually, almost all the people I worked with at Lockheed at the time thought it was Clooney trying to be Bond. I set them straight and then confirmed by seeing it opening weekend.

Correct but again, I’m not trying to connect The American in any way to TRS. Completely separate. Just thought I’d say I enjoyed the movie.
Me too. I own it on blu ray. it´s a beautiful film. I just wanted to state the fact that it´s hard to make money in this genre, even if you have a movie star like Clooney…which is the only problem TRS has, not bad acting, bad script or bad production value.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here actually seen “The Rythm Section”? Is it good? Bad? Disappointing?
I’d agree 100% with @antovolk on it being a good movie, but if it’s you’re expecting something Bond you will be very surprised.
