Trains, Bad Luck, & Robert Shaw

While thinking about Bond & his dangerous train travels, I realized an eerily bad connection between Robert Shaw’s film characters & trains.

  1. FRWL: Donovan ‘Red’ Grant gets tear-gassed & garroted after a belly full of red wine and fish.

  2. The Sting: Doyle Lonnegan’s poker game on rails gets him conned into a larger con that costs him big money & respect.

  3. The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 : Mr. Blue steps onto the 3rd rail and gets free electricity for the rest of his life.

  4. Avalanche Express : General Marenkov’s train is hit by an avalanche. Though the character escapes, sadly Robert Shaw himself dies during production.

So, now if you see me type “Holy Robert Shaw on a train!”, you’ll know what I mean.
