Just discovered this music and I think it’s fantastic!
Mr. Bridges combined with this band, consisting of only two men and a woman, it works brilliantly.
I can especially recommend the one-hour loop version on YouTube.
The Rolling Stones kicked off their European Tour yesterday in Madrid and the played for the very first time “Out of Time”. Realy great, can’t wait to see them live in Amsterdam.
I thought I would be listening tonight to The Rolling Stones in The Amsterdam Arena, but… I was just 4km near The Arena when I saw above the speedway a sign which said: “Rolling Stones Arena Cancelled”.
Quickly I turned on the radio for the news and I heard that Mick Jagger has corona.
It’s very good but a shockingly short album - it’s 31mins long but if you take out the pieces of classical music there’s only about 23mins of Williams’ score…
I´m a middle-aged man, and the idea to become a fan of her was ridiculous for many years. Then I heard “Love Story” in a pivotal moment of a season 2 episode of the incredibly magnificent “The Bear”… and I was hooked.
I tried the rest of her catalogue and… damn, she is really a great writer and performer.
I know the Carpenters are not everyone’s cup of tea. I was a fan as a kid, drifted away when their song choices and arrangements got more syrupy in the late '70s to early '80s, then reclaimed their music after Karen died in 1983. I’m currently listening to the 5.1 remixes of their complete Singles 1969-1981 SACD album on YouTube. I love the crystal-clear audiophile quality of these mixes.
Listening to this through headphones really helps me appreciate one of the all-time great singing voices. Karen sang like no other, and Richard really knew how to arrange, especially for those stacked overdubbed vocal harmonies that he and Karen sang. Hearing her warm, uniquely intimate voice nestled in his superb vocal and instrumental arrangements is an exquisite listening experience … at least for me.
Got mail from my favorite record shop “De Waterput” (de Well) in my birthplace Bergen op Zoom, they have received all my orders for Record Store Day:
The Rolling Stones lp “The Rolling Stones” (their first one on blue vinyl)
The Rolling Stones lp “Live at the Racket”
and last but not least Lulu The Man with the Golden Gun picture disc
Afterwards I go to visit a friend who I haven’t seen in a while.
It will be the first time in about 15 years that I will catch the train.
It will also be six months since my dear wife passed away, so I hope this will give me some distraction.
I got hooked by Evermore and Folklore. I did not dislike her before, but only listened to the odd song. Those two albums got a lot of airplay in my house during the pandemic.
I listened to her new album a few times on the weekend. I don’t think it’s as good as the two I just mentioned, but I think it’s a solid album.
At 56, it has become more challenging to open myself up to new things and I don’t think that is unique to me. I am glad I was open to her music as it has brought me a lot of joy.
Absolutely. Which I at least think is not just due to age, I really am looking for new artists which can excite me. Unfortunately, I don’t find many. Swift, however, has great lyrics and music, just what always drew me in with other artists.
Same here. Every once in a while, my brother comes up with something interesting, but that’s about it. Been listening to a lot of Jazz recently, mostly old-time, and it’s just great to discover “new” things in this old material. Currently working through a set of Cab Calloway recordings from the 1930s and having great fun.
I have Apple Music and one of the features I really like is continous play. Once a song, album or playlist is finished Apple Music will select music it thinks I want to hear. Much of it is stuff I have heard a lot but I have also stumbled upon old and new stuff I never new existed. In addition, I get a good amount of modern stuff since my 13 year old often uses my phone to play music in the car. One artist I like (not as much as Taylor) is Olivia Rodrigo. She swears a little too much in her songs for my tastes (I really am becoming my father) but I think she is a solid artist.
My rule is: would the song still be great if played simply on a guitar or piano. If it is just studio trickery then I won’t like it. And so many artists these days rely on studio tricks and neglect solid songwriting.
