Remember that Futurama episode where they only take the first six Star Trek movies to a planet to make just that canon?
“Welshy!!!”
Yes, but James Bond is the main part in every film and this is unique.
That’s funny. We were watching TND tonight and my 7 year old says “why are they making newspapers?”
I think The Man With The Golden Gun’s energy crisis subplot makes it the most dated entry in the series.
For days (weeks) I want to watch Casino Royale and Quantum, but I know I will get the 4K Craig Bond set for my birthday and it would be a pitty if I already have watched them, so I have to be patient.
yeah, because who could make up something absurd like an energy crisis…
I will be watching On Her Majesty’s Secret Service later today. This is an important one for me as it was my first Bond film and I saw it sometime between Christmas and New Years of 1969. Hence, I will not only be celebrating the films 50th anniversary but also my 50th as a Bond fan.
I watched TWINE with the same anticipation, the films 20th anniversary, and my 20th as a Bond fan.
FINALLY saw it in the Cinema on Saturday, it’s my favourite but seeing it on the big screen has doubled my appreciation for the artistry of the camera work, the depth in the frame is quite stunning, my two boys loved seeing it on the big screen and the youngest was genuinely taken aback at the “guts” sequence. It has now replaced TLD in my eldests affections. Job done OHMSS
I have been lucky enough to see it in a theater twice. First, back in 1969 and then again in 2012 when a local theater showed a number of Bond films in honor of Dr. No’s 50th. You are right that the camera work is wonderful.
I’d like to see it in the cinema for it’s sound design. The never ending escape from Piz-Gloria has astounding use of sound, I imagine it’s even more so in a theatre.
Very much so, the scene outside Draco’s office is disorientating because of the depth of sound
Excellent. Still the best filmic adaption of a Fleming novel. I’d love to see it on the big screen.
Casino Royale is its only competition…by following it’s exact blueprint.
I think I want to go through the Craig films again, so I’ll be watching Casino Royale. I can’t get enough of the No Time To Die trailer and cannot wait for it to release. CR-SP will have to sate me for now. I will include Goldeneye Reloaded and BloodStone as well, I consider them part of the Craig-verse and help to make the story elements of Skyfall, i.e. Bond being the old agent, more believable as we go from him being a young and green rookie in CR/QoS to being too old in the very next film. It’s a jarring jump when the films are watched in sequence but by sliding in Goldeneye Reloaded and Bloodstone, it makes the jump less jarring. In fact, the jump from QoS to SF and Bond going from too young to too old without anything in the middle is similar to going from Return of the Jedi immediately into The Force Awakens and having the Empire defeated and then the Empire First Order immediately reigning supreme.
That’s why I was kinda thinking it’d be good to watch Solo after RotJ but before TFA as sort of a prequel to Han’s arc.
Also I just noticed that’s Julian Glover, aka Kristatos, as General Veers launching the ground assault on Hoth in Empire Strikes Back. All these years, never caught that.
Yep, that’s him. Took me awhile to realize that too. But he’s been a villain in a number of very popular franchises: Star Wars, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Game of Thrones. He also voiced Aragog in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
I’ll be watching all the Craig films as well - four days out from my NTTD screening. I have a gold class lounge ticket I’ve been saving up for the occasion. Only the best for Bond!
He was also played villains on The Avengers- not the current movie franchise but the 60s TV show. He also battled Tom Baker’s Doctor on Doctor Who.
