So here is George Lazenby’s goddaughter Jodie Kidd driving a literary Bond car.
The R Type Bentley is for me a better looking car. If only we had this car in the movies. Yes I love the DB5 even though that’s still the wrong model of Aston, but ahhh the Bentley! Would be nice to see Bonds love of cars and racing history in a movie, I know we get the girls, the action and the cars in the movies but we don’t get Bonds love of cars that Fleming bestowed him with. It’s just look Bond driving another Q car, Yes maybe this touched upon in NTTD slightly. But not enough. Also what about the book lined sitting room?
The DB5 is a pretty car, but famously Connery found the pedals too small/close together for his ‘plates’ and I have a Peugeot family shopper that actually out-performs it. It’s simply too long since it was competitive; unless you fitted one with the motors the stunt teams have in the ‘lookalike’ cars, uprated brakes, suspension, tyres, etc/so forth the average chase would consist of Bond losing the target and having to phone for a chopper. It’s had it’s day - and some memorable outings (I defy even the most ardent hater not to admit the ‘NTTD’ sequence was glorious) In reality, an Aston is a hilarious choice; ‘The Living Daylights’ features my favourite Bond car of the series - And here’s a Breetish Spy behind the Iron Curtain in an Aston. Everything else on the road would be a Trabant, Wartburg, Lada or a Zim if there’s a Party bigwig about… Ok, it’s JAMES BOND! He can’t rock up in an Astra or a Micra, even if that’s the obvious choice for ‘low key’. So… I’m going with Bentley GT. Because!
Agreed. I think they need to change it up for the next guy after really leaning hard on the Aston Martins during Craig’s tenure. The last film alone had three different Aston Martins featured.
If they really wanted to be bold they probably ought to put Bond in a Porsche. It’s the one brand that’s been conspicuously largely absent from the series.
This. Just get away from constant self referential nostalgia for that Bond “we all know and love” - show a Bond we don’t yet know and let audiences fall in love with that.
