Who do you want for Bond 7?

…and spread over large parts of the Asian stratosphere.

Don’t forget about the “Being James Bond” doc…

I know he said QOS was his least favorite when promoting NTTD.

I think you’re probably right, although there is a strong possibility for Skyfall seeing as it was highly financially successful and it was directed by his pal Sam Mendes.

We’re over three years out from his final film, so I’d be interested to know what film he considered his favorite.

I agree. At the end of the day Craig put effort into the role when it came time to film, and that’s what I appreciate. Nobody will be a better brand ambassador than Moore. I can see why people get annoyed with Connery and Craig’s demeanour off screen, but it also translated well into the role itself. They have that edge about them.

It’s Bond and Beyond.

I don´t think you can compare the situation of Connery (who was a cultural phenomenon at his time) with Craig´s…SC did four films in four years and after that people even followed him to the toilets in Japan. So I think it was hardly similar for Craig who had more time between his films than some other actors careers lasted…

I always have, floating around in the back of my mind, a name that is my current pick for Bond 7 and I wait to see if another name comes across my radar to unseat them as my choice…

And for the last year or so the name I’ve stuck with is Jonathan Bailey.

Perfect age of 36. Perfect amount of popularity (not A list but not an unknown). Can play the character in whatever direction they choose to take it.

Not the general situation, where Connery was pretty much a mega-star overnight in a way no other actor that I’m aware of experienced before. That was indeed unique and unpredictable at the time. And Craig knew what he was in for, knew the blasted British rags and the whole amount of attention that would come with the part. It’s why actors think long and hard when they get into the Bond orbit. So that was certainly different.

But what I mean is the way the role stays with these actors when they would rather move on. Even Lazenby, long considered the black sheep and downright unknown to my generation until we learned from industry publications about ON HER MAJESTY’S, even he began to connect with the fanbase. Lucky for him in his case.

But if you are working on shifting your profile away from Bond, if you’re interested in parts beyond the heroic lead…then this continued company of the 007 mantle can be turning into a liability. And that’s probably not so different between Connery’s 70s ambitions and Craig’s today.

One might argue that Craig started as a character actor, then did Bond (but had time to do other things in which he was accepted without any problem, even starting another franchise) and now focuses on whatever he likes.

There is no typecasting for him at all. And even if at the current moment audiences still know he was Bond nobody thinks „Craig can only be Bond“, the way people thought of Moore or to a degree Brosnan.

The more elegant and actually sensible approach for Craig would be to either gratefully acknowledge his past as Bond or to have his PR team nix any questions about it. The mere fact that he allowed that interview and gave those flippant answers shows his intention to signal the audience he does not care about it.

I’m reading this with interest and I have to fundamentally disagree, Craig was a great Bond and is a great ambassador for the franchise.
The whole interview was set up as a joke, he’s joking with the interviewer but also nodding to the audience giving them a wink…
Craig is an extremely dry and witty person ( this comes from the 9th Doctor) Broccoli saw a partner in him in a way her father did with Moore. Moore by the way, also knew his worth and negotiated accordingly.
Craig stepped in and stepped up with every Bond picture and the love he has for the character and the responsibility he felt for the custodianship of Bond is in every scene of every film.

Sir Steve McQueen could be about to direct a 007 film Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands

Yes it’s from the Sun
Yes it’s clickbait
Yes Yes Yes … But… What an inspired choice it could be, great on a budget fantastically artistic, deep but accessible.
Phenomenal with actors

I’ve thought the same about Bailey ever since Craig quit. He meets the criteria in my book in all sorts of ways, including – as you say – current level of popularity/status, age and physicality.

He’d also face the inevitable whine about “woke casting” of course, but I’d hope the producers would see fit to steamroll through all of that.

I haven’t seen him in anything which says Bond material, sorry. Just another pretty face with no particular charisma.

Then you must have seen a lot of different interviews in the last 10 years than me…

Let me put it to you this way - in ‘62 all we’d really seen of Connery was Darby o’ Gill.

Based on the roles Bailey has had you’re completely right, but there’s enough there that I’d at least love to see a screen test…

Agreed. I think it’s not bad to take his “I don’t care” comment literally, either. Even Dalton said his reaction to seeing Brosnan in the GE posters was to feel free as a bird. The previous actor having moved on makes it easier for us as well.
