007 First Light - IO Interactive

Nope, once you beat it once, you are forbidden by law from ever playing it again.

Of course, I’m already in the middle of my second playthrough, intentionally completing levels in different ways than the first.

It’s been mentioned this is supposedly - too? - expensive for only 20 or 30 hours of gameplay and no multiplayer mode. But I don’t think a game that captures and delights its audience is played only once. With so much to discover and try out, why would it?

No multiplayer is probably a drawback - but actually mainly with that segment of the gamer community that is invested in multiplayer games anyway and doing the Call of Duty/GTA shooters. By far not all gamers do. On balance I think keeping Bond the sole character in First Light best suits the particular Bond chemistry. While it’s probably still possible to develop a multiplayer add-on down the line should the need arise.

I don’t buy the ā€œit’s too expensive for 20 hours.ā€ Last time I took my kids to the movies, it was nearly $40 for a less than 2 hour movie. I’d argue that I got way more value out of $70 video game for 20 hours than $40 for a 90 minute movie. The value of an item is directly correlated to what anyone what’s to spend on it. Personally, I find that 007 First Light offers significant value for its price.

Also IO are going to keep adding to the game for sometime like they still do with Hitman. The main menu even tells you what theyre adding next!

Driving missions for the tacsim btw

Driving for tacsim will be great. I actually thought the game could use more driving. There’s one car, in particular, that I wish we got to see more of.

Is that like an update situation for an app or does one have to pay for every addition?

I think most IOI updates are free. But it depends on the developer/publisher. Sometimes DLC (downloadable content) is free, other times it’s paid. The Le Chiffre mission for Hitman was free, I believe.

I would imagine, although they could certainly surprise me, that there will be some paid updates for this game. IOI can set the prices, or lack thereof, for their updates when it’s their IP, like Hitman, and may have some say about that kind of thing here as well, but with something like Bond that falls under another company’s ownership, I’d have to think that Amazon will want to have some paid updates to keep the revenue stream the game is generating going a little longer once the initial rush of sales quiets down to the levels you typically see post-launch, which in turn will add even more to the already high price of the game for those that want the complete experience.

It wouldn’t be out of the question to see, down the line, some new missions added that would cost a fee, while also seeing some packs of additional clothing options for Bond that might come in $5-$10 packs, in addition to the potential for some free content to be released as well.

They’ve said they are intending on using their Hitman model so free with ocasional paid ā€œbonusā€

Basically cosmetic things ocasionally and full time access to the celebrity targets which are normally on a free rotation (thats where Sean Bean and Le Chiffre were) never saw much point on paying for full time use. The gaps between you seeing a repeat target meant you got to plan out your target using a full investigation with slightly fresher eyes.

Everything else is covered by having already bought the game. Hitman added a few maps to the main campaighn as well as multiple different games modes such as sniper assassin and ā€œcuratedā€ maps were players can submit their own assassinations on maps from the game and anyone else who has the game can play it. TBH The tacsim part of the game seems like it’s tailor made to one day have its own version of ā€œcuratedā€ maps at some point.

Tip for those who haven’t played yet. Once the TacSim is available at Q-Lab, play it. It does a far better job teaching you how to fight and shoot. It will improve your skills as you play through the game.

Agreed. Use it to train yourself

I’ll be sure to get around to that. Too eager to see the story through! Going through the Vietnam section now. This is the relaxed cool of Thunderball that I love. Having drinks and enjoying his cover of being a playboy. You can tell IO had the time of their lives making this game.

Imagine what this game will do for gamers who haven’t watched any of the movies yet.

I hope we are seeing a new generation of Bond fans in the making. After playing, I would 100% be behind Patrick Gibson taking the role in the films.

I’m just so happy the reaction has been as good as it is. Again, I’ve avoided all major spoilers and watched only parts of the training section (Greenway is the character I’ve been most interested in and I knew he featured during that section) but the music and movement are so on point it’s mind blowing. Happy everyone’s having a good time with it on here!

I continue to see posts about people checking out the films, or asking what films people recommend. It’s happening.

That is interesting–that the level can be played differently. Like each game of Tetris has different patterns.

It’s pretty fun and adds a ton a replay value. For example, in one playthough, you might need sneak through a backdoor to reach the next area. But in the next, you could overhear a conversation and steal a person’s badge to gain access.

I can see how that would be fun, and encourage replays. Like my rewatching films that I have seen many times before–most times with a different focus than previous viewings.

Exactly. The plot is the same but what you take from it changes. My partner is now playing it and its very different in gameplay because she is making different choices to me.
