It all depends on EON giving the greenlight.
Is it all down to EON or are the rights snagged between different companies? I canât think of any reason why EON would hesitate if it was entirely their call.
EON (specifically Danjaq) own all the rights to the characters and the series in all its forms but Amazon now own the exclusive rights to distribute it having bought MGM. I agree with @secretagentfan that they are probably giving it a bit more breathing room, but they wonât have the forced gaps MGMâs bankruptcy(s) caused before Casino Royale, Skyfall and No Time To Die.
However, Eon may be much further along than people are guessing as they donât ever really do the little tidbits sort of announcements other films are comfortable doing - they tend to announce many things at once, and do keep in mind the director and writers were announced before either Brosnan or Craig were castâŚ
I hope & pray there will be 007;soundtrack expansions in Autumn , I really donât think EON are the problem it a question of Amazon & the Record company owners signing a contract , I know specialist soundtrack album sales are down as MV said from La La Land Records & even Neil S Bulk was shocked by the 2 James Bond expansion sales but MV was not too concerned as they were the lesser know scores, I am hoping like you that all the stars align for these expansions to happen for the 60th anniversary of James Bond this autumn, I do think with the sound of 007 Documentary & the sound of 007 concert in October that the music is at last getting pushed so maybe everything will align for this autumn to see more 007 film expanded scores
Itâs looking extremely unlikely now that weâll be getting any Bond soundtracks. LLL Records will give us a bit of notice about their upcoming releases, allowing customers to pre-order. Weâre approaching the end of August already.
I still think if LLL Records do any James Bond Soundtrack releases they will either do October as this is the 60th anniversary of James Bond Month or go for Black Friday releases at the end of November when they
Usually do there main big releases, itâs also the 20th Anniversary of LLL Records & I really think they would
Love to have James Bond as part of this special year & itâs such a big franchise
Black Friday is the most likely slot for LLL Bond releases.
MV has said before that EON had to sign off on their releases. But, itâs true, TWINE and DAD did not sell as well as expected.
I still hope for a MOONRAKER release.
Just donât get your hopes up. I was hoping weâd see the Bond films released on 4K disc this year. That is not going to happen, despite years of speculation that they âmight doâ or âshould doâ.
Iâll remain pessimistic about the Bond soundtracks unless thereâs ever a formal announcement.
What does MV stand for?
Itâs LLLâ s spokesperson.
I see. Even though EON have to authorise a release, they canât do anything about rights that record labels have ownership of.
You want Moonraker to be expanded. EMI owned the rights to the original soundtrack releases. Who owns it now? Then thereâs the story of the lost tapes. Supposing itâs true, the music will need to be re-recorded. It wonât be a cheap project.
Bond music fans were talking about this back in 2012, prior to the 50th anniversary. Nothing happened then. The fact that LLL Records havenât been able to release any other Bond soundtracks besides TWINE and DAD is telling us something.
I think the remaining David Arnold soundtracks and the Thomas Newman ones have a realistic chance of getting the treatment done at some point. Maybe, even an expanded release of Licence to Kill could also happen one day.
Anything EMI have ever had any involvement with in the past might be a problem.
Not certain if the tapes are really lost. When the first remastered/expanded soundtracks came out around 2003, people complained about Moonraker not being among the expanded ones and we got the story of the lost tapes.
Soundtrack expert Gergely Hubai was a member here in those days (back at the old forums), and he said that the tapes arenât lost, they just didnât look in the right places.
It doesnât matter if the tapes are lost or not. Somebody owns the rights to Moonraker and all those other titles released in 2003 under EMI. And theyâre not giving them up.
At the top of my wish-list would be a complete set of Bond films in 4K with commentary on all films. If directors or actors are unavailable (often due to death) find someone other appropriate people to do them. I would like the set to include deleted scenes from each movie and all associated film documentaries and extras that have been developed in the past. Finally, I would like the set to be released in 4K disc, Blu Ray and digitally - with the digital copy containing all extras and commentaries.
Doubt we will see all of the extras but one can dream.
This is what MV the chief spokesperson from LLL Records put on The Bond Music group on Facebook over a year ago
So I really do think itâs if LLL Records can now sort out with all the parties now the Amazon deal has gone through , so letâs remain confident these expanded James Bond scores might still happen
âCorrection to everyone. Itâs not Eon. They are amazing to work with. Itâs two fold
-
The new movie delays. No one wants any older soundtracks out before the new movie arrives. Donât ask. This is the case with Top Gun and has been the case in the past (ie Xmen films and Apes films). The studios for some bizarre reason usually do not want any new soundtrack out of something old while the new one is coming out.

Capital Records, now UME, and MGM were right in the middle of renegotiating terms on all the Bond soundtracks right when Corona hit so it put the kibosh on things.
So that is why no new Bond for the moment. We were actually planning 3 at the timeâŚmoonraker (40th anniversary) license to kill(30th anniversary) and tomorrow never dies but all on holdâ
I can 100% agree & confirm that the Moonraker master tapes are not lost they are definitely stored in a safe place, itâs been a myth going round for years
Ok. So UME perhaps own the rights to the Bond soundtracks. Where does LLL Records come in to this?
LLLRecords would want to negotiate with these parties
In order to release the expanded James Bond scores from themselves, the other companies would obviously take a percentage for doing this itâs what happened with the previous LLL Records James Bond releases
If a Moonraker expanded score had to rely on re-recorded cues it just wouldnât be the same, and my enthusiasm levels would drop. If the tapes donât exist, so be it. I hold out hope they do.
There are wonderful re-recordings of classic scores. Jerry Goldsmith´s QB-VII got one of them, and was even carefully reconstructed without having the written orchestration anymore.
So, if MOONRAKER needs to be re-recorded, it can be done to match the original - and soundwise, as I understand, it would be much better.
