Alex Rider TV Series in the Works

The third and final season arrives April 5th. Disappointing, but not surprising given all that’s been rumoured about Freevee and Alex Rider not looking exactly cheap.

Then of course the elephant that was always in the room with this series, of its lead wouldnt pass as a child spy forever…

That’s the hurdle the books stumbled over too, the concept carries for a time, two, three entries - but soon we wonder how crowded one teenager’s life can get. Higson stopped his Young Bond run just in time and with a perfect character.

Charles Cumming approached the idea from a different angle with ‘Box 88’ but ultimately it’s just something you have to use and then leave behind again. Or you just go the route of never ageing, never changing characters like Famous Five/Three Investigators/Die drei??? which is evidently entirely okay for a series running indefinitely. :man_shrugging:t3:

EDIT; Link died, so replaced it with a live one.

I loved it, but despite what articles would like you to think, they knew from day one that this was the end. Everything is wrapped up and they call back constantly in a way that screams “Welcome to the end!”

Just finished this, fine end to the arc. In fact they managed to wrap up quite a bit better than many other shows. We really get the feeling this was what they aimed for and what ‘the plan’ was all along. Very good adaptation.

Doesn’t it feel VERY quickly “welcome to the end game” in a way a that feels like a count down?

On reflection, yes.

Setup is different, Alex and his ‘team’. They’re in an active role this time, eschewing Department and Jack. And it’s like there’s a cat-and-mouse game going on from the start. One might even think it’s Yassen who is setting it all up - regardless of outcome - because he wants to revenge the loss of a friend.

Then there are the many many references to the first two seasons, callbacks, lines of dialogue. Even the brief sequence of Alex reminiscing his ‘life’ up to now. It’s all very deliberate, a rite of passage that changes the dynamic of the characters and the show.
