“Have you broken anything?” “Only my tailor’s heart.”

So, from powder blue terry towelling onesies, to overly short pink kipper ties, to safari suits, to regular suits that appear 2 sizes too small, what is Bond’s worst wardrobe malfunction?

I’m tempted to call out the crocodile Moore ‘wore’ in the same film (and maybe the duck Connery wore in GOLDFINGER). But they are, along with the clown suit, disguise not wardrobe.

So I will go with this…

The jeans suit may at first look seem like a good choice for Jamaica. But actually it’s neither suitable for really warm climate, nor practical for leisure activities since it’s going to stain awfully fast. And it just looks hideously unlike anything Bond would or should wear.

The worst that spring to mind:

  1. the “virginal university student” outfit he wears in Venice in Casino Royale. Awful Nike sneakers, awful everything else. He looks like Toby Maguire in Spiderman.

Runner-up:

  1. The baggy blue shirt and boat shoes Brosnan wears in Saigon in TND. He looks like a little boy who’s been dressed up by his mother for a sailor-themed 5th birthday party.

What would that be - the chase and fight scenes when he wore blue? I think those were Adidas sneakers, no?

Looking on Bond Lifestyle, the trainers are indeed horrific. I don’t mind the rest of the outfit though: pants and a long sleeve polo… but I guess that just speaks volumes about my sense of style!

I’m surprised Lazenby Bond hasn’t come in for more stick though: more ruffling than a wedding dress but the style disaster is crowned by this orange and brown combo that defies any concept of taste! (And I love OHMSS!)

The brown combo is undefendable, however he was in disguise with the frilly kilt ensemble and I will vehemently defend the ruffle tux shirt ( mostly because it was the look I aped at my university ball and proved quite popular with my various dance partners on the night)

Well you can’t say fairer than that!!!

I will admit , the earlier shirt is a much better choice…

Agreed. I feel Bond’s style always works best when it is simple, timeless and classic. Thunderball pretty much ticks every one of those boxes imo. That said, there is entertainment a plenty to be had when he goes off piste as seen below.

That blazer and roll neck combo is utterly of it’s time and I love it. The perfect outfit for Moore to raise an eyebrow and utter, “A little premature isn’t it?” without even uncrossing his legs when faced with imminent death. Serving lounge lizard 70s superspy realness!

I will say this about the brown outfit - it fits the movie.

OHMSS has always had that 60’s swagger to it, even showing up in the score. Lazenby walking out in that with his golf clubs rather than slacks and a polo just fits the vibe…

I find the fila track suit in AVTAK very distressing.
