There’s a video up on YouTube where a couple of CGI experts break down the surfing scene.
Pretty sure the first shot was a model that someone made into slow motion in the edit, not CGI, but, yeah…water good, ice bad, Brosnan not even slightly integrated into the scene.
The Flash came off really well in that, apart from the shot of 2 ENTIRELY CGI Barrys, which…yeah, I can’t think of a better term than the one they used, Ballsy to have complete CGI characters on anything let alone on a tv budget. I hadn’t even noticed how they’ve added in shadows around Barry’s feet when the lightning appears.
Great video!
It seems the issues were less about budget and more a lack of basic CGI knowledge, or effort.
Main points my CGI non-expertise gleaned: Wrapping light lazily around the whole of Pierce instead of only around the parts facing the light sources… And not lighting him properly for passing reflected light sources (the ice) via a gaffer simply using a reflector beside him.
So rather than this scene aiming too high for the budget, it’s canon worst shortcomings were merely down to a lazy, dumb very fixable effort. I guess it was definitely time for a total reboot.
It was a blessing in disguise tbh. It paved the way for arguably the best the series has to offer -Casino Royale
If you accept it for what it is, Die Another Day can be a pretty fun watch.
That is a compelling argument Jim Re: Blofeld as bond’s foster brother. It just made my heart sink thinking NTTD could continue in this horribly misguided narrative.
With any luck they won’t mention that again.
Plus, I hope there will be more to the interrogation scene than “Can you still hear the lambs, James?”
