Paid for holidays vs broken limbs…can’t think why…

CraigBond was reincarnated as a Mathis lookalike.

As you get older it gets harder to tell…

An oddly recurring theme in Craig’s run.

The Benoit Blanc mysteries are productions where the lifting is done by a whole ensemble of heavyweight A-listers and character actors. Since action and stunt work doesn’t feature too prominently there’s less need for strenuous choreography and fitness regimen. And if the script plays to the strengths of the ensemble and their chemistry, then they actually help one another to shine in the final product.

It’s easy to see how that has a certain charm for actors, starring in potentially an instant classic without having to invest too much time and energy into one single project. And since these films are not traditional cinema releases the cast will have contracts where their paycheque is b/o-bomb proof.

$210 million!? And this on top of Netflix paying $450 million for just the rights for the 2 sequels!?

$ 210m indeed seems a bit bloated. Either they cast 30 A-listers as extras or Benoit Blanc drives a Rolls Royce into a Sardinian harbour…

Craig commands some luxury treatment, apparently. But the fifth or sixth Blanc film will be a return to the roots, back to Johnson’s original, until the cycle starts again.

$210 million for one of these films?

To quote our friend Sharky, “What a waste…of money”.

Somebody tell me if I’m wrong here -

$450mil for the rights to 2 movies averages out to be $225mil per film… add to that a $210mil budget…

Am I missing something or did Netflix actually spend $435mil for 1 film?

I don’t know the budget for Glass Onion, but if Netflix did not include the budget in their price these two successors to Knives Out are not cheap at all.

But apparently they can afford it. And these two films are the only reason I keep my subscription…

This comes from an internet blogger who buried it at the end of his “article” about potential Green Lantern castings. He posted this repeatedly on social media in a very blatant hope to get clicks up. People didn’t go for the Green Lantern bait, but latched on to the cost bit and did the thing of just repeating the one sentence they saw in a headline, no matter how much it’s pointed out Netflix paid 450 for 2. They’ve now made one, which would would leave around 220…unless of course they had to spend quite a lot extra for virus screening and protection during a pandemic…

Just so; I have a hard time believing Netflix would have to pay hugely more than what they already did since this isn’t the nature of both KNIVES OUT and GLASS ONION. There’s little globe trotting, action, set pieces - all that stuff that usually blows up budgets. Production values are evidently high but nowhere near a tentpole blockbuster. The actors are the capital of these films, rightfully so. But it’s an ensemble production and its stars are not necessarily the most expensive ones.

I don’t know where that blogger is getting those figures from, Rian Johnson has stated on numerous occasions that each Knives Out film has a $40 million budget ($30 million for production + $10 million for marketing).

I suppose one could allow for some slight adjustment due to inflation and the raised profile of the series - KNIVES OUT is now THE Netflix prestige project after all - but hardly in the range of the figures bandied about. This is still a comparatively intimate whodunnit.

I just gained more respect for them both. They’re right. Those movies deserved some big screen love.

Whats the betting he’s one of the people who misses huge amounts of special features with films?
