Looks like it could be a magnificent adaptation!

Yep, that looks like it’s serving me everything I want from a horror flic :ok_hand:

I love that I can recognize specific scenes from the book.

It’s not my intention to be self-serving here; reviews of various kinds seem to be accepted in our group. Here’s a link to my blog review of the book 'Salem’s Lot. I have lots of different genre reviews on there from horror and espionage to pulps, sword and sorcery, and martial arts. I’d love some feedback, Thanks in advance.

I’m a little nervous that the runtime of 'SALEM’S LOT is 1 hour 53 minutes.

It can, of course, still be plenty entertaining in its own right, but certainly not a faithful adaptation of the book…

This is almost certainly a film that isn’t at all necessary. I guess in a couple of years we can look forward to someone taking a third crack at IT as well.

With IT I really think the time shift to the 80s was a mistake; as were the two feature films. The novel is so episodic in character it could make a perfect two seasons for a prestige streamer. Will most likely - but by then I’m no longer invested in the outcome, I’ve made my peace with It.

I‘m coming from a different viewpoint: I don’t need adaptations which cover everything a book offers. What’s the point?

If a movie is faithful to its source it retains the atmosphere and the characters - but it always should follow the rules of a film. Will it leave out a lot? Sure. And that will be its main asset. Because it adaps to the new medium.

We have been tortured with stretched out movie lengths in the last decades, and seldomly the stories needed the time.

Is this adaptation too short? Could be, because WB butchered it and treated it with disdain. But judging from the photos, the trailer and the clip it might just be what it needs to be.

As I said earlier, I accept (and hope) that it can be good in its own right, but I think it’s only natural that if you’re a fan of a book to have favorite scenes you might be looking forward to seeing filmed and being disappointed when they’re not, which is certainly going to be the case here. You of course know that is always the case with book adaptations but there might be A LOT of it here.

A good example is JURASSIC PARK. I enjoyed the movie but I’ve also been stewing since '92 that my favorite section of the book, the first 1/4 of it, when mysteries deaths are happening across Costa Rica, never made it.

On that note…

I’ve still not come around to reading the short story, will have to change that soon-ish.

I had not even heard of it but after hearing about it here will be reading soon as well…

It really is a typical untypical King story, with its narrative told in reverse. No supernatural monster, instead focusing on people dealing with their demise.

After too many reviewers not willing to engage with this film and criticizing that it does not do what they expected, the audience prize really is astonishing and absolutely helpful.

So excited to see some of my favorite characters get some screen time!

Of course. His only (probably) successful IP left.

I don’t know, there might still be some appetite for a legacy sequel/reboot to Thelma and Louise
