News on NO TIME TO DIE (no spoilers)

http://www.comingsoon.net/movie/untitled-bond-25-2020

I’m hoping against hope that this isn’t official but comingsoon.net has the release date for Bond 25 as Dec. 31st, 2020…:worried:

Ahh, I wasn’t aware of that…hopefully that is the case…thanks Arbogast…

They’re saying it’s the Hodge and Boyle script. If that’s true then I think it’s probably Demange directing; someone they’re familiar with who’s willing to pick up the pieces rather than start fresh.

Exactly. Amazon does the same with unknown release dates of dvds.

Until there’s an official announcement from EON, I think all these media outlets are guessing just as much as we are.

Good call… I need to just breath and calm down… and relax until we hear an official statement… lol.

Edit: changed massively so as not to dwell on on something I have no taste for and discuss something I adore

EON wisely play everything close to their chest, and I expect we’ll be told once they are 100% that what they are saying is true. I suspect that discussions and contract negotiations are happening with whomever will take over Bond 25, but we will not know until every T is crossed and I dotted.

Aside: The attached article is not news. It’s a guys blog and unlike Google I don’t count a recently shared opinion as news, but I thought this view of the impact Bond continues to have would be an uplifting thing for those worried by the Bond 25 issues. There arn’t many series that can have the same power now as they did over half a century ago.

I would also add FRENCH CONNECTION II by John Frankenheimer to the list.

And the Incredibles 2 was… incredible!

Toy Story 2 AND 3.

I’m not ashamed to say, I cried at the end of Toy Story 3.

Really? Haven’t seen that movie in years, but watched the first one recently to remind me just how great American thrillers were in the 70s. Will have to dig up that sequel now - thanks

Indeed it was. But it didn’t manage to match the first movie’s scene in which Mr Incredible thinks his family have been shot down and killed on their way to rescue him. Get a real lump in my throat every time and really buy Mr Incredible’s sheer bloodlust thereafter. Deep, dark stuff for a kids cartoon; puts adult mainstream cinema to shame - Brad Bird for Bond (one day).

Just finished it… Wow, that was really bloody great.

Couple of fundamental loose ends, but in a show of such epic genius i can live with them.

Yes please! I’d be so there for that!

Hope you enjoy it. Frankenheimer made a movie in a much different key and I think it works (Hackman liked the development). The film also shares a cinematographer with TSWLM–Claude Renoir.

As for 1970’s cinema–it was amazing in many genres until until the last years of the decade, and then it went in directions I still lament (my husband declares that I do not like any films made after 1980).

Not going to lie, Frankenheimer not doing a Bond is one of those “missed opportunities what I wish could’ve been moments.” Imagine him getting a chance at directing TD! Would’ve worked for me!

Take with a grain of salt. If they wanted Purvis and Wade or another writer to work on their script, it’s really a double edged sword, for both sides.

I’m also sure that Boyle and Hodge didn’t want their script touched by anyone else, especially Purvis and Wade. That (they probably thought), would keep their ideas as fresh as possible, and their creative freedom at a high for themselves.

Careful what you’re sure about and why. Boyle and Hodge are not infallible. And EON would not have chosen to look for another writer if they had not thought that Hodge´s efforts were not working.

Fact is that writing a Bond script might look as if everyone can do it. That is wrong. It needs a very special skill set.

The other fact is: Purvis & Wade know and love Fleming. They are collaborators and put their ego away, that’s why EON likes to work with them. BUT…

… and this cannot be overemphasized enough since it is so often neglected: P&W are so often called in by EON just to deliver a first draft. They start the process. Then EON always, always, always has called in other writers. On SPECTRE it was reversed - but even then they were not the ones who finished the process, other writers were brought in to rewrite again.

Therefore to believe that EON - big, bad, dumb, with no fresh ideas - sacked the brilliant, always better and absolutely loaded with fresh ideas Hodge because they could not wait to bring in P&W to destroy everything original with their bad, dumb and stale ideas… is plain wrong.

EON did not hesitate to shove P&W away many times, including this time.

Should they ask them back to whip the current Hodge draft into production shape it will be only because P&W actually can deliver a Bond script on time for the budget that is there, dealing with the wishes of a director AND Mr. Craig.

The last bit, by the way, in Baz´ article actually was the real revelation: “Tense situation behind the scenes, finding a director prepared to be ruled over by Mr Craig.”

Mr. Craig seems to be the deciding factor, after all.
