News on NO TIME TO DIE (no spoilers)

Greatest rumor-hits article - with the addition of the Boyle quote. Which is weird. I would say being an aficionado would make it easier. And didn’t Boyle say years ago that he would never want to direct a Bond film? Now he is the biggest fan… of Fleming´s books.

Craig has committed to star in November, while his James Bond 25 film regroups following the exit of director Danny Boyle.

[…] Boyle’s abrupt exit from Bond 25 gave Johnson and Bergman an opening to pursue Craig, if he was up for squeezing in a movie before returning to his 007 franchise. When Craig sparked to the script and signed on, a hot package came together, just in time for the Toronto market. Besides the Bond films, both Johnson and Bergman followed Craig’s career closely since his strong turns that included Road to Perdition, Munich, Layer Cake, Defiance and Logan Lucky. They’ve seen his stage turns, and Johnson has met Craig socially several times. It made for a quick and easy alliance on Knives Out.

“I have been a huge fan and always wanted to work with him and as I worked on the script, trying to get it right, Ram and I were wringing our hands over who could be the detective,” Johnson said. “Then, serendipitously, we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out. He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new Poirot.”

Now. That. Is. Some. Interesting. News.

It definitely puts all the fears about Craig´s new baby taking priority over filming duties to rest.

Also, it might indicate that BOND 25 is still on for a December/January shoot.

And… he is looking for a another franchise to star in.

This is a fascinating addition to our already mind boggling discussions on “what’s going to happen now?”

True. Namely I was just making the point that while other Bond directors had their share of flops, they were also more established in Hollywood, while Demange is a newcomer with only two features to his credit.

Well, that is certainly out of left field and extremely intriguing!

Depends on how long a shoot “Knives Out” is expected to have. Likewise, isn’t there usually a prep/rehearsal period for Bond prior to the start of shooting? I would think this move makes it much more likely that the release date will be pushed back. To squeeze in an entire shoot in November before jumping right into Bond in December seems like a lot to ask.

It’s more likely a late January start - which would give Craig plenty of time to film a detective story.

Depends on how many days Craig is needed for that project.

Could go either way - if Craig said “I can only be available for that particular period of time before BOND 25 you will have to do it then”, all could still be going as planned.

But if Craig said “BOND 25 is off anyway, so let’s do it now, I’m free” it will be a bad sign.

To start BOND 25 in January would probably work but compress the shooting schedule even more for a November release date.

Sigh…

To me the key words from Johnson in the article I read were “Craig had a small window”, which is not indicative of a huge delay.

More from Variety:

The most pertinent line in the article:

“With no new director yet hired to replace Boyle, it’s become increasingly likely that the next Bond film won’t make its announced release date of Nov. 8, 2019.”

As soon as there is no reasonable chance left of keeping the schedule…they will have to announce it. Since they haven’t done so yet there must still be hope.

Yes, the Variety article leaves out the quote about the “small window” - and speculates with the word “likely” - so I too will wait and see.

To use it as a connection to a related article. I don’t think there’s any new info in that, just a (slightly awkward) segway.

Rereading several of the articles, Johnson’s actual quote is “we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out”. The key word being “might” versus “has”. My fault for misquoting.

There’s also the line " if he was up for squeezing in a movie before returning to his 007 franchise", though that’s not a direct quote from Craig or Johnson.

None of this means anything.

Craig is now likely only free for a Bond release in 2020 now. It’s all ashes.

That’s the safe bet, imo.

I know with EON that secrecy has been paramount over the years, but at what point does “damage control” factor into the play, especially after today’s announcement about Craig? Or is this a situation where “no news and a ton of speculation” actually plays to EON’s strength? To be honest, I’m floored that they have allowed so much time and speculation to brew since the announcement of Boyle leaving the project. I assume MGM / Universal stock holders know more than we do.
