Well, in the ‘other’ thread, I did ask if someone was actually paid for this.
It is monumentally strange that the amount of $ paid towards perfecting a movie results in imagery so completely uninspiring and underwhelming.
I know I have said in times past that all that would be needed, if paper Had to be printed, was the 007 logo. But if this is that they feel is necessary, I, as a collector of paper, would prefer nothing at all.
I like that it’s actually colorful rather than the usual neutrals and metallic tones. After the filters in SP the consistent thread in promotional materials so far seems to be the use of vibrant color, and I’m all for the films looking vibrant again.
I find the teaser ho-hum. Like rubixcub said, the color is nice and I like the 007 logo over the lapel, but the font is a shade too big and Bond isn’t really doing anything–no gun, no action, just standing and looking off in the distance. SPECTRE’s bullet hole was much better.
I miss the old extravaganza posters which featured all the characters and had action scene elements. After getting just Craig centric designs I think those days are gone, but I hope to be proven wrong. I pray this doesn’t end up being the best NTTD poster of the bunch.
I like the Brosnan era posters, especially in contrast to the efforts of recent years. They at least had personality and communicated what the films were about. But I won’t get too down about this, because the film itself is much more important. It would be good to have that extra icing, though.
I don’t lament the passing of the painted era, nor do I hanker after a poster that is chock full of action as current advertising avenues have made all that redundant.
What I do think is absolutely necessary, and concurrent to the standards of the Bond films, is a very tasteful photograph taken by a talented photographer to create a mood.
Not this ‘splat splat’ method of presentation.
I would Love with a passion to know how Empire Design was chosen, how they are retained, and what is the thinking behind these decisions and approvals.
I actually really like the poster. Simple and to the point. Controversial opinion: I prefer this teaser poster to those of SF and SP, respectively-- the former came across as “we can’t think of anything dynamic, so just stick a gun barrel in there,” whereas the latter seemed overly nostalgic towards LALD. This new one feels like its own thing and I like that.
As a 50th anniversary poster, I liked the Skyfall teaser, but i’d agree otherwise…even if I do think NTTD would be better as just an image, not with the title.
