If things had gone a normal way, today would be the day and many of us would be standing outside at the fences or walking the red carpet into Royal Albert Hall. But as things are standing now, it was the best move (even though a bold one at the time) to make the early decision and postpone the Premiere of NTTD.
It’s been a while in the movie business that Bond took the lead instead of following others, but in hindsight, this shows to be one of the franchises fines hours. Not when it comes to creative decisions or clever marketing but just by doing the right thing.
I wish that some of the powers that be around the world had acted or would act as wisely as Eon did, but instead, some of them (and their claqueurs) seem to use the crisis for their own shameful purposes instead of doing everything to avoid things getting worse.
Anyhow, I hope that we really get the chance to see the movie in November, and that at that time, people will be able to visit cinemas and other public events without fear for their own or their loved ones lives.
To be fair to those, that’s what these people have been told. Lied to. Yes, they wanted to believe the lie often enough. And some no doubt made lies up to the same effect, because they wanted it to be true. My, show me one person who wouldn’t.
But truth doesn’t care about our wishes. And if it doesn’t bite you in the behind that’s because it’s likely taking aim for your teeth. With a nasty length of steel tubing, as we are about to learn.
So that BEING JAMES BOND documentary that was teased at the Craig MOMA event actually seems to have aired as early as on March 5 on Viasat Film Hits in Scandinavia…and almost aired in Germany this past weekend before being pulled.
Were any Scandinavian forum friends able to catch and record it by any chance? For obvious reasons it doesn’t appear to be on Viasat’s official online catchup services…
From the man himself and it makes perfect sense, even though that probably won’t satisfy the clickbait rumour crowd ‘reporting’ otherwise over the coming months. The Bond team were well and truly prepared to release the movie before it was delayed. It’s in the can, patiently waiting to be viewed.
I have had average to low expectations for this film since the beginning, mainly due to writing and story-related reasons. Corners they’ve painted themselves into. However, I’ll say this: Cary is very good at instilling confidence. Maybe it’s just the American thing. I think confidence, well-placed or not, comes more naturally to Americans than Brits. But he’s done a good job from where I’m sitting. I’m glad he got the gig.
Look at who acted early and was proven right: EON, NBA, universities closing school well ahead of public schools (who still think May 3rd is a possible return date,) California’s governor, sports leagues, movie studios delaying releases, South Korea, and smaller Asian countries.
The smartest people (academicians and researchers at universities), those with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake (professional sports, movie studios) have made decisions on data and facts, whether for public health or financial considerations. Politicians and world leaders, even some local public health officers, have been slow to these epiphanies, and some still haven’t made them (Georgia’s governor claims he just learned asymptomatic people can pass the infection.)
Then there’s Iran, which was just about flattening or peaking and let up on their lock down, leading to an exponential increase in cases again.
Boris Johnson made some ill fated decisions early on (heard immunity can’t occur within a month or two), before changing course and closing down. His hospitalization may lead to new awareness. Trump occasionally listens to Dr. Fauci, then interrupts and contradicts him minutes later.
Meanwhile, had the country or globe completely stayed at home for all of March and April, it’d be over by summer. But a delay in weeks or months in acting, doubles, triples or increases tenfold the time until the end. They’re hoping in weeks, but it may be months, and could be years.
