No Time to Die – Member reviews (Spoilers!)

Aren‘t you sure that this is a plothole caused by P&W that PWB would have fixed if only DC had not insisted on it and gotten signed off on by BB because she wanted to kill off EON?

I am reliably told by the British tabloids that P&W hate PWB, because she stole their initials and then took all the critical credit for NTTD.

Well, I just saw No Time To Die for the second time. After the initial viewing, I thought the movie was ok, but I did not like the ending, so I wasn’t sure where to appropriately rate it, so I felt I had to see it again to get an accurate ranking.

But as I was getting ready to leave to go see the film a second time, I found that I had no great urge to see it again. I actually briefly debated with myself whether to go ahead and see it today or not but decided I needed to. When the movie started I had a hard time getting into the film–I was just a viewer, not someone who was invested in the proceedings.

By the end of the film, I found myself angry at the result. I suppose upon the initial viewing, I was numb with disappointment and shock that they actually killed James Bond because I wasn’t as upset then as I am now. Now, I’m just pissed off.

The production team ruined a LOT of goodwill with their terrible decision to kill 007, which I have no doubt they did for shock value and to get praise from critics–they certainly didn’t do it for the fans. To make such a polarizing decision to kill off one of cinema’s greatest heroes–if not THE greatest–is not done with the fans in mind. It’s done to shock, provoke, and say, “Look at us, aren’t we brave, aren’t we creative?” when all they are doing is kicking fans in the proverbial junk.

I’m not saying the producers have to think about fans all the time, but when you have an idea that is guaranteed to be so polarizing and divisive and piss off a large segment of the fanbase, then you probably should go with another option. That’s good business. Upsetting half your customers hurts your bottom line, creates ill will, and is not a successful practice for the long term.

Some people/fans may like the decision and/or movie and more power to them. But I certainly am not one of them. Since The Living Daylights I’ve seen every James Bond film in the theater at least 3 times, but I will NOT see No Time To Die again in the theater. It is the worst film in the series. Maybe not the worst made, but the worst film. :-1: :-1:

I think NTTD will take on even more special significance in decades time, especially if they keep Bond’s death as a standalone event, which I hope they do. As more films are released it will sink into the broader ocean that is the James Bond franchise, and not be an active threat to those who dislike it. Just as people can enjoy Die Another Day a lot more easier now.

We’re supposed to start enjoying DAD now?

No, you should’ve started enjoying it long before now.

Just home from a second viewing and like the first I am left cold. I tried to view it with fresher eyes than the first time. I’m trying to be hopeful and positive, I really am. I would like to believe that the ending was straight from YOLT and I really want to discard what certain youtube channels are speculating for the future of this franchise…but I have a sense of ‘dread’ that Bond is going to become akin to Ghostbusters 2016. I’ll explain later.

Nomi wasn’t as bad a character this time around. I could get past her brashness and arrogance this time and perhaps she wouldn’t be so bad bad in a series of her own. Bond’s relationship with Mallory being what it was I guess works(?) and I loved the scenes with Bond and Madeline. Aside from Skyfall this is possibly Daniel’s finest performance as Bond in love.

But here’s the thing: It’s TOO heavy on the homages to OHMSS. If anyone ever wondered what a Christopher Nolan Bond would be like well NTTD is your answer. Fukunaga just beat Nolan to it. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s involvment wasn’t needed and it’s clear where her involvment is shown, because it’s too heavy handed and it’s already too embarassing of a trend. If it didn’t work for Superman Returns then why would it work for James Bond?

I neither love nor hate No Time To Die but damn if it isn’t a huge disappointment. Once again I argue that the film didn’t have to tie up anything because Spectre already did. Daniel’s Bond walked away from the life, and that’s exactly where Craig himself should have bowed out.

Also, for a director to call the central character a r*pist doesn’t sit well with me. Who is he to judge material that’s decades older than him? We get it…the world has changed but they made a giant mistake: #MeToo has soured this movie, like everything it touches in hollywood. It’s become an embarassing trend and it now has left a scar on this franchise. It was NEVER needed.

Sorry for the rant but I’m p*ssed off. Daniel’s Bond deserved way better. I won’t be watching NTTD ever again. ANd it’ll be a very cold day in hell before I even like the movie.

It deserved to fail.

The franchise overall. I’m doing my best not to sound paranoid, and avoid hot button political topics but if NTTD is any indication of where the franchise is going? Then expext alot more ‘divisive’ films incoming.

It’s not good.

I tried. I really did.

That’s a really good read.

Yes, I think it does explain it (I think) and renders my initial question completely daft, but then one lives and learns. Still think it a bit odd that the film seems (from recollection) to show the nanobots as little eeeeevil critters, but I expect that’s to explain it for the idiots i.e. me.

Seems slightly like you do hate the movie.

On my third viewing I thought them quite cute, though it did annoy me that Phoebe Waller- Bridge wrote such woke dialogue for them " de de de deedeeleedledee" (nanobot language) it has ruined Bond as much as shakey cam did in QOS.
Maybe I imagined them speaking , definitely imagined them singing all the time in the world though.
4th time will be interesting

They are notionally indestructible - allegedly - so I don’t think you imagined that.
