Sure, if anyone actually involved with the production had ever committed to this being Craig’s last. Closest was Craig, two years ago, saying, “maybe” when asked directly if it was his last.
It indeed could all be ignored with the next one rebooting. Which I wouldn’t mind.
But if Nomi is 007 in this one, she could… be upgraded to 006?
I don’t really want her to continue, by the way, because if she is brilliant the next one will kind of have to feature her as well. And Bond is a loner. And we already have the big mi6-crew now to give lots of scenes to. If Nomi also gets to be in future films it will become too much.
I mean, multiple times since and at April’s press launch Craig has said it was gonna be his last…only person playing coy as to whether it will actually be his last is Barbara.
From everything we’ve been seeing production wise it certainly seems storywise (to be honest, it was the same with Spectre!) they are shaping to be as if it was his last. The whole premise of him being called out of retirement for presumably ‘one last job’, after a whole two films debating whether he was getting too old for this… To have an actual almost definitive end before moving on to B26 would be amazing.
It would become strange if he came back again for BOND 26, now out of retirement, back in service.
She could be given another 00 number and make minor or cameo appearances in future–or none, for that matter. The fact that there are other 00’s has never required them to keep turning up in Bond’s films.
Has he? I’ve seen many articles claiming it, but never actually a quote by someone actually making the thing saying it. Now, I don’t think Craig will do a 6th, but if the production has not actually planned on doing it, and they’d be milking the crap out of it if they had (look at The Dark Knight Rises, Logan and Avengers Endgame) the film is not going to play out like it’s a huge ending anymore than Diamonds Are Forever did.
There’s definitely interview footage from the April press launch of both Daniel saying it is his last and Barbara saying that ‘according to Daniel it is his last’ or words to that effect (something I definitely recall being repeated in further interviews by BB). And others like Naomie Harris saying that Daniel thinks it’s his last at least.
And mind, we still haven’t got any full on marketing yet, so we don’t know just yet if they are or aren’t gonna milk the finale aspect.
PS. Mind, for Spectre though, they did do this…
Since the Colbert interview he’s consistently said ‘Yeah, I think so’.
If he’s happy with the final film, it probably will be his last, but if it turns out like another SP, then he hasn’t publically closed the door on a sixth. The options there, and I presume he has first righ of refusal on a B26.
This is the closest I can find. A nervous, probably. He’s aware he could change his mind (or investor says they’ll only fund Bond 26 if Daniel returns) but he doesn’t currently plan on it. This film is not aiming for it to be an ending.
Edit: though of course, Fleming killed Bond off at the end of the 5th book and just waved it off at the beginning of 6…
A post of mine from earlier this year…
M: “Now that bond is officially back in the service, I’m sure you won’t mind being reassigned to 0014? You’ll be able to say that you’re twice the agent he is.”
Only way I can tha think of that it all works together is if she seemingly dies in the climactic action sequence, Bond is given his old number back, and then she turns up alive at the end. Could be the last scene/last lines of the movie, setting up the potential for a spin-off series.
ETA: or if she’s hospitalized at the end, and sends Bond off with a line like, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back.”
“You can’t have 007 back, Bond, but we can offer you the best thing: 006-7/8.”
Why are we talking about the Lynch 007 thing in the ‘no spoiler’ thread?
Now that it’s been moved…
I think it’s still just speculation that Lynch is the new OO7, but on the assumption she is, what do people think of the likelihood (I think suggested way further up) of a full action scene in the PTS but with Lynch’s OO7, giving us the first Bond-less cold open since 1974?
Has the trailer been rated yet, can anyone see?
It’s not on the website as of yet, but feel free to keep track.
It’s possible. But I would not like it. I want Bond to be in a Bond film.
I wouldn’t mind honestly. Keep the suspense just like TLD pre-titles sequence.
