But even if a No can be inferred from that, there have also been No’s in respect of Moneypenny, Blofeld and returns for directors and actors for recurring parts in recent times…

I apologize for being too lazy to go back through thousands of posts to locate this, but where was the yacht filmed that we saw approximately two photos of, the one with the helicopter on deck? Was that Italy?

EON really managed to milk PR from everything so far, without straining to do it. Let the rumors take care of everything, it´s enough to keep Bond in the conversation.

I reckon there’s a good chance of that, as we don’t officially know anything that was filmed there. There was talk of aerials filmed there, so maybe just establishing shots of a lair - with the rest digitally created.

Does that make it ‘news’ that the production actually did film in Cuba, and not just Jamaica and Pinewood ‘for’ Cuba?
I wonder, wouldn’t have Cuban authorities made much of a prestige production like Bond shooting on location? Would current US sanctions even allow a Hollywood production to shoot there? And if they had made an exception specially for Bond, wouldn’t that have featured prominently on the accounts of the spin doctors?
Seems unlikely to me, truth be told.

As a Cuban actress playing a Cuban character written specifically for her, Ana De Armas would’ve had pushed hard if Cuban Gov’t had any involvement, even just being in the country - look at Mexican Gov’t reaction to Spectre’s pre-titles.
All I can imagination is that maybe they got permission to shoot some establishing shots of the real Cuba, and then they recreated the rest in Jamaica and Pinewood.
Probably so. Bond shooting on location in Cuba would be roughly as big as Bond shooting in Moscow.

A closer look at one of the new stills from Empire seems to confirm, between the Russian plates on the Defenders we’ve seen and the ‘ЗАПРЕТНАЯ ЗОНА’ sign behind Bond in the still, that Safin’s lair is definitely in Russia.
Back to this: you’re absolutely right. Casino Royale had a huge sense of energy and anticipation about it being Craig’s debut film. He was a controversial casting choice at the time, and then it became apparent he was going to resemble something more akin to Dalton and Connery. So the hype and intrigue was twofold, mixed in with it being a Fleming novel adaption.
Barbara and Michael exude quiet confidence about NTTD. By approaching NTTD with the clear understanding among all cast and crew that this really is it, the same point to prove mentality that began Craig’s era could very well permeate his concluding film. The trailer certainly had atmosphere.
