Good spot. I’d like it to be somewhere quite specifically obscure - perhaps the disputed Kuril Islands in the east of Russia, which would perhaps explain some of the more oriental flourishes as well. It also could mean it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Bond to end up missing in action somewhere between Vladivostok and Japan.
Bond joins 00-Lynch during an action sequence, seemingly at Safin’s lair. They’re both dressed in combat attire and toting machine guns. Not sure if this is before or after Bond gets captured.
I would say they likely enter together, then get separated and Bond gets captured and meets Safin (the scene from the trailer about playing God). He then gets tortured or something, and loses his navy blue sweater in the process. He then escapes or is freed, and then there is a second shootout where is wearing the white long sleeve shirt and braces that were seen in one of the promo images. Not clear what happens to Nomi… perhaps she goes to get reinforcements, including Madeleine? I’m trying to figure where the scenes of Madeleine and Nomi seen on the Italian beach fit into all this.
Maybe Nomi can escape, Bond cannot. Nomi asks Madeleine for help, due to her connection to Safin. A nice reversal: the women are trying to rescue Bond.
Sounds reasonable. I’ve been thinking about the scene of Bond walking outside on the side of the road, and Lynch driving along in the Aston pushing down her sunglasses - could this be outside the lair? Some reconnaissance before they attempt an infiltration perhaps? What if Safin’s lair isn’t top secret ala Blofled’s volcano lair, but something ‘legitimate’ but nonetheless private property?
To anyone on this forum from Italy and/or France who’ve been to the cinema recently - there is a shorter 60-second spot out there that may or may not, according to a member on the other place, contain new footage…
Wasn’t sure if it was true but did some digging and there is something - just not sure if it is indeed a new thing or a cut down of the full trailer. Anyway, if anyone sees anything at their cinema, let me know…
My initial thought of the scene was, it’s in either Cuba or Jamaica. My guess was Bond saw Nomi in the night club in passing, and then later she picked him up on the side of the road after he somehow ends up stranded on foot. She then gives him a lift back to either his or her place - where they have the “So you’re a double-0 now?” dialogue. But it could be later in the film, just guessing as always.
Could work too, good thinking.
If you look at the shirt he’s wearing (white henley) that scene - it’s definitely around the time he was wearing that assault gear. Whereas he’s wearing the same black shirt in the nightclub passing scene as well as the scene later at his place…
Yes, although the final third of the film is definitely very hazy at this point, I think that the following moments are all there, but the sequencing and relevance is unclear:
- Bond wearing the long green coat, running through the forest, plus being met by Nomi in the Aston Martin
- Bond driving the Vantage along the Norway coast
- chase of the Land Rovers through rivers and mountain territory
- Bond and Nomi infiltrating Safin’s lair in tactical gear, with Bond then being questioned by Safin
- Nomi in tactical gear and Madeleine on a beach (filmed in Italy)
You are spot on, Arbogast777 & Vauxhall. Now I’m totally convinced Nomi does indeed stop and pick him up after his run through the forest. I’m guessing she has the tactical gear in her car that they use to mount the assault. Only thing that is puzzling, is he wearing the tactical pants when she picks him up? Or does she have specific gear for him?
I think it’s all the other way round, the Land Rover/Toyota chase and the forest stuff is after the assault on the base.
A thought I had - is Lynch assisting Bond? Is she trailing him like a ghost, keeping an eye on him? Or do they just keep running in to each other as they’re following the same man?
“Stay in your lane.”
I’m thinking perhaps the latter. It really depends if Bond gets a 00 designation back and is operating officially. His visit to Q’s house and not the official lab may be a clue.
I’d think at the start of the film - absolutely trailing him. But it’s clear enough from stills that by the time they get to Safin’s lair they’re working together.
I think it could be a bit like Wai Lin in TND - with the two agents with the same goal but different competing methods
The one thing I’ll be interested in clearing up - why Nomi goes so far as to tell him she’ll put a bullet in his knee. That seems a bit harsh for a fellow Double O…
He’s been retired for 5 years, so technically a civilian, and given this job kills fit, young operatives, the old retiree who is taking things into his own hands is genuinely dangerous. Bond keeps coming back, no matter how many times he’s told to leave it, so Nomi threatens to shoot him in the knee if he doesn’t stop.
When I heard that line for the first time, it made me speculate that Nomi may be on the same assignment as Bond (who as Orion mentions above -is retired). So she’s telling him to bugger off and let her do her job.
Maybe so, but I’ve been under the impression that at this point in the story he’s been living the retired life in Jamaica, drinking some Red Stripes and doing some spear fishing, not “working”…
What if Bond is living the quiet life, and MI6 gets word Felix has met with him and proposed a new assignment? The new 007 travels to Jamaica and tells Bond to back off and stay in the shadows. Obviously Bond doesn’t take the advice.
Bond gathers enough information that he deems useful and visits London to share it with them. He gets roasted by M (apparently this does happen), and afterwards he visits Q at his apartment due to not receiving a warm welcome. At some point MI6 soften and welcome him back.
