Dunno for Latvia specifically but another Eastern European territory similarly spilled the beans on Avengers Endgame being around 3h6 if I remember correctly, with the final runtime later confirmed at 3h2.
But the important thing is that it’s the same runtime as Universal Russia reported last week, and in general Russian runtime intel to cinemas, in my experience, have been basically spot on.
I don’t remember when exactly we first heard about running times for SPECTRE or SKYFALL before they were confirmed officially. Some have pointed out that it seems early to know when they are still fine tuning their film. Yes.
Then again, they should have an idea where roughly their film will end up; not perhaps to the minute but surely to ten or 15 minutes.
Although a few things on this movie have been done sometime before we were told, such as the title song, I can’t imagine they’ve a pic locked final cut yet, so imho it’s a provisional duration.
But, as Antovolk says above, with the avengers provisional runtime being so close to final cut, it suggests 174 is going to be pretty close.
Since Roger’s time, Bond has usually followed a current trend: blaxploitation, karate, Star Wars etc so I can well believe they are now following the Avengers style with epic movie lengths. After a 4 year famine, I’m pumped for a 3 hour feast… especially when it looks this good!
Maybe it’s the absolute outer limit the studio is willing to support with theatres? Epic films have become a trend - but they can still be a burden for cinemas nonetheless. The days of the pause should indeed see a comeback if this trend continues…
Peter Hunt stood his ground with OHMSS’s runtime, and I’m forever thankful he did. After Connery’s films being roughly two hours or less, OHMSS was quite a big jump, and it’s a franchise pioneer in that regard. I don’t think 3 hours will become the norm, but I think longer runtimes are here to stay.
Interesting quote regarding the blue sweater he wears in the poster:
“It’s interesting, because, that costume, a lot of heartache and thought goes into that, and you’ll see what it is,” he said. “It means something in the movie.”
It’s supposed to look like regulation naval gear for sure, but it’s from Peal if I’m not mistaken. The boat neck is too wide and really something that’s just now en vogue - while the real stuff comes with crew neck (and from distant memory tends to be not overly comfortable and manufactured on the cheap, like most army stuff around the world).
Yes, indeed. It’s N Peal’s take on a classic naval sweater. So it could definitely be a nod back to his previous career, and the fact that since he’s no longer an active 00, he is simply Commander Bond again.
