They have people everywhere
They might have got the title from one of their producer’s earlier films.
They might perhaps actually have thought of the title themselves? Not entirely impossible, I should think.
I would think someone within the organizations (EON) must have, at least the curiosity, to scroll through a couple of fanbase forums or sites just to check out the vibes from the public.
The strong reactions after the first Sonic trailer ended up being taken into account and the filmmakers agreed on reformulating the whole CGI. So something must go through.
Of course they wouldn’t come to decide the title or get casting tips, but just to check out if the fans are engaged.
Doesn’t mean that it’s our cosy, little corner of the web that is visited…
Don’t you think so?
In the grand scheme of things, it’s not the fanbase forums that are important re: fan reactions, it’s social media at large - Twitter, Facebook etc. Much bigger sample sizes…
And revulsion at Sonic wasn’t just from the fanbase, which led to that decision.
Absolutely. Facebook and Twitter provide a much bigger opinion pool and there are numerous tools for market research that can sample the data and process it for any big company. Today when a title is chosen there is likely a detailed consumer reaction available for any candidate and a studio would know to the .0 how many people are able to understand ‘revoked’ or not.
That said, I suppose market research can also provide a snap probe into reaction of specific segments of the population, i.e. hardcore fans. But that too is much easier done by Facebook since your activity protocol would likely mark you as anything from ‘casual’ to ‘hardcore’ Bond fan.
Daniel Craig and other people involved in the Bond movies have said that they have “read the criticism” and “been online and seen the reaction” to the movies, so I am almost certain that they have been on this website.
And not just them. Commanderbond.net’s reveal of the Quantum of Solace title made the news around the world, in particular the BBC piece on the title announcement, which included a shot of the relevant thread on here.
Kudos and congratulations to all!
Super insightful interview
What I was getting at
Wow, they lobbied for it, they worked on it for a year to get a song that everybody liked?
So much for the common understanding that a currently hip artist quickly throws together a tune and it gets slapped on.
Which raises my confidence levels in their song considerably.
He talks about having actually done it months ago, where they “got to work with Hans Zimmer” which does rather say Zimmer has been the films composer for a while…
A longer runtime would mean Zimmer has quite a lot of work to do. Starting earlier than we thought would’ve given him enough breathing space to create something he’s satisfied with.
Very cool news. There’s passion in there, so a very positive anticipation.
Hmmm
Sounds eerie… Already i’m liking it
Billie Eilish running away with things at the Grammys…

Nice job, EON.
Obviously I’m not really the target audience for her music, but I have to say I don’t get the level of hype surrounding her. I am willing to give the title song a chance, but I still wish they had picked someone else.
They’ve certainly picked someone who’s hot at the moment. Together with the news they’ve been preparing the song for quite some time, and the possible connection to the story (Madeleine’s childhood), I think this all bodes well. I’m not part of her target audience but that doesn’t matter.
