NO TIME TO DIE - title discussion AND POLL

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any suggested that sound good to be honest.

Since we Bond fans like our abbreviations let me be the first to use in the real world…

NTTD

Ahhhhh, that felt good…

Blimey, it’s only been a couple of hours and I’m already bored of that gag!

It’s a great bit of graphic design, that.

It’s alright, doesn’t do much for me. I would’ve preferred the film be titled 007.

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the title. Sounds generic, as if someone tried too hard to sound Bondian rather than let the title stem organically from the story.

Truth is, I preferred “A Reason to Die,” which didn’t sound quite as cliche to me.

Also reminds me of High Time to Kill, which I strongly prefer as a title.

That being said, I have been very pleased by all that EON has given us these past few months, and I look forward to the upcoming posters and trailers. A very exciting time.

It’s funny - I read about this title here on CBn when I got home from work then I went out for a walk… and about 30mins into the walk I started thinking about the title and couldn’t for the life of me remember what it was other than it had “Die” in there.

That kind of sums it up for me.

I also don’t like how “No Time to Die” and “Die Another Day” are kind of conveying the exact same thing…

Been skimming through reader comments on various sites carrying this story. My favourite (as in it made me laugh) was:

How about ‘‘The World Has Had Enough’’?

You currently hear that a lot. For different reasons though…

Is the tux a shawl collar and is that another nod to Doctor No…

Definitely appears to be a shawl collar, though not sure if it’s directly a nod to Doctor No. Craig’s tuxedos in QoS and SF were both shawl collar as well.

And when Craig is lured back for one more movie, Bond 26 will be called NO TIME TO DIE HARD

My pick was for them to use Everything or Nothing but this seems fine - certainly No Time To Die in April, much better to wait for the summer where the heat aids the decomposition process

It works better with the subtitle:

NO TIME TO DIE
Not today, anyway. Come back in five years, it takes us at least that long to do anything.

Let my 72 year old father sum it up:

(I show him the title reveal video on my iPhone)

Dad: “What was I supposed to be seeing?”

Me: “They showed you the title of the new James Bond movie.”

Dad: “What the hell do I care?”

Y’all know I am a word geek, so disappointed with what strikes me as a generic title, I looked at a list of Bond movies, and sorted them as below:

Bondian

Dr. No
Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Diamonds Are Forever
Moonraker
Octopussy
Casino Royale
Skyfall
Spectre

Borderline

From Russia with Love
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
The Man with the Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
For Your Eyes Only
Quantum of Solace

The rest felt generic.

Another way to think of the titles is as existing on a continuum from poetic/allusive to prosaic, and NO TIME TO DIE is on the prosaic end for me.

Same here.

The font is Futura Black (with the usual minor modification), designed by Paul Renner in 1929. Been used for many designs in the past 90 years.

Having given it some more thought, I really hope there is a smart plot reason which makes the title more relevant - otherwise it does come across as a touch of the Bond Random Title Generator. We’ll see.

Current mood on NTTD:

40 per cent like it, 37 per cent are in two minds, nine per cent say it will grow, nine per cent hate it. And remain is gaining, though not as much as Mugabe did, last time we had him…

I think it’s to be expected, a Bond title is seldom really a revelation. So disappointment and eager welcome are balancing each other for now. The important thing though is the film. I suspect once the trailer hits us the actual footage will be much more decisive than title.
