Safin knew Blofeld intended to gift himself a spectacle in killing Bond. Safin not only spoils the fun by slashing into Spectre’s cadre, he also let’s Bond survive which must have come as a…surprise for Blofeld.

Here’s what I don’t get about the bionic eye (keeping in mind I’ve only had one viewing):
If Matera was supposed to have taken place more or less right after Spectre, and Primo had it then, are we to believe that Blofeld was able to get it all set up between him and Primo THAT quickly and they were able to keep it going for 5 years?
Did we ever find out what Blofeld had in his cell or on his person to enable his end of the communication?

The fight itself is brief but it continues the exciting momentum of the first half. Most of all the location, atmosphere and lighting is fantastic and gives me GE/GE64 vibes. I enjoy the desperation and authority Craig has by raising his voice (much like his final words to Patrice in Skyfall) and not wearing the tie adds to the vibe. It’s like he’s after hours and ignoring the rule book, pushing as hard as he pleases.

I thought that the evidence gathered from the eye was thus…
Ash recruited Primo prior to Cuba party. That’s why Primo was not killed at the party. To keep Gorbie unaware, he was not informed of this. The brush was taken by Ash and given to Primo. Gorbie played his deception unaware that Primo was also working for Safin.
Although perhaps the nanobots were actually always there from CR and THEY are the author of Bonds pain. Cuckooles if you will.

Ash and Felix were at Bond’s house before the shower and toothbrushing. And the eyeball movie clearly shows that the recruitment took place after the party. Just one thing: why didn’t Bond notice that his toothbrush had disappeared the next morning?
But why make it complicated? Why have Obruchev play the deception while Primo knows they’re on the same side, with no one else around and with absolutely no indication why this would have been necessary. Also, they showed that Primo was in Jamaica, without any obvious consequences. If he hadn’t been there to get a DNA sample, his presence wouldn’t have made any sense at all (and risky, too: what if Bond sees and recognizes him?). And why have the recruitment scene, when they were already allied?

I completely agree with you stromberg. However, your great summation (aside from the typo of Ash recruiting Primo for SPECTRE instead of Safin) doesn’t include how SPECTRE “knew” Bond was going to be at their party so that they could kill him, which, of course, is not stated or even hinted at in the film. It just is. So what’s your assumption?
My best guess is that either Ash was a triple agent (highly unlikely, but not much else works logically) or that SPECTRE somehow got intel (that, again, we never see or hear) that he is coming to Cuba for the party. Either way, bad job by the scriptwriters.

It’s not a plot point I’ve had an issue with. A Spectre agent was in the room with Bond and Felix as they were discussing Bond going to Cuba for what Felix says is a Spectre gathering. When they were drinking scotch at the bar he couldn’t have been 10ft from them. Not every detail was filled in for us but that’s enough for me to see how they would know…
