I shall watch BAD COMPANY as a memorial–his first and best film.
And Twilight
And Kramer vs Kramer, Nobody‘s fool, Billy Bathgate…
Sad to hear about Joe Don Baker. While not the serious type of character I usually gravitate to, I enjoyed him in both of his Bond roles.
A sad loss. I enjoyed his two Bond roles as well, particularly Jack Wade. It’s a crazy reminder for me that GE is in no way a ‘new’ Bond film anymore and my childhood really is that far away. Robbie Coltrane, Gottfried John and now Joe Don Baker gone but not forgotten from that film.
He always a bright spot in his appearances. Ironically, Cheers ended 32 years ago today.
NORM!!!
Sad to hear. He, along with everybody else was great on Cheers, but I’ll always love his great comebacks whenever someone asked him something when he first walked into the bar.
So in honor of George Wendt, here are 10 of my favorite Norm Peterson quotes:
“What would you say to a beer, Norm?”
“Hiya Sailor. New in town?”
“What’s going down, Normie?”
“My butt cheeks on that bar stool.”
“Still pouring Norm?”
“That’s funny. I was about to ask you the same thing.”
“What’s the story, Norm?”
“Boy meets beer. Boy drinks beer. Boy meets another beer.”
“Hey Mr. Peterson, Jack Frost nipping at your nose?”
“Yep. Now let’s get Joe Beer nipping at my liver, huh?”
“Pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson?”
“Alright, but stop me at one…make that one-thirty.”
“Can I pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson?”
“A little early isn’t it, Woody?”
“For a beer?”
“No, for stupid questions.”
"How’s life treating you, Norm?’
“Like it found me in bed with its wife.”
“Can I draw you a beer, Norm?”
“No, I know what they look like. Just pour me one.”
“How’s it going Mr. Peterson?”
“It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and I’m wearing Milk Bone underwear.”
Frederick Forsyth…
R.I.P
His The Jackal and The Odessa File are still standards of the genre.
Fleming, Ludlum, Clancy, Flynn, Thomas, Le Carre, Higgins, DeMille and now Forsythe: almost all the greats are gone now…
Brian Wilson…
Paul McCartney told BBC Radio 1 in 2007: “‘God Only Knows’ is one of the few songs that reduces me to tears every time I hear it. It’s really just a love song, but it’s brilliantly done. It shows the genius of Brian. I’ve actually performed it with him and I’m afraid to say that during the sound check I broke down.”
One of my all time heroes. I was lucky to see him on both his Pet Sounds and Smile Tours, and once with the Beach Boys. It was a great pleasure every time.
God only knows what I’d be without you.
R.I.P.
This one was sad to come across a few minutes ago. Granted, of course, that there are far more consequential films and stage productions on his resume than this, but I’ve always loved his scene in Ghostbusters II as Judge Wexler. Great scene in the film and, even as a kid way back, I remember thinking that he was clearly having fun with that bit part. Still one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite films.
RIP

Had we seen this? Apologies if it’s repetition. 100 is a good knock, and she seemed like a nice person.
