Teaser Trailer Anticipation – Your Hopes and Worries

That behind the scene in Jamaica was already kindof a teaser. If they could just bring another similar teaser focused on the Matera filming, that could be great enough.
Having a third final trailer still in the same mood could also establish the Bond we are expecting in this movie: “I am retired, why should I give a damn about the plot ?”
Actually I am getting tired of these trailers explaining every plot point we’re gonna see in the movie.

Bond movies have a 57 year bad record for trailers giving away everything

Interesting that many are assuming that story and plot are the same thing. This is not the case. Casino Royale’s story is a rookie agent allowing emotion to get the better of him and allowing himself to fall for a girl who will betray him and define his character. The plot is something to do with money, poker and terrorism.

QoS’ story is revenge and an attempt (and ultimate failure) at healing. The plot is… (well…) something to do with Bolivia’s water supply and Western powers liaising with other powers.

Skyfall’s story is about sons’ relationships with their mothers, the plot is about a cyber attack on London leading to an assassination attempt.

I’m not so concerned with NTTD’s plot as its story. I want it to hold true, emotionally. I also want the retconning kept to a minimum, however I fear the examples in Spectre will only be built upon…

Excellent point!

some bad news - no trailer has been shipped for US screenings of Joker this weekend. Mind, if anything this further opens up Saturday James Bond Day as an option for online but otherwise…Gemini Man? I’m just surprised really.

Trailers being attached to film screenings doesn’t really happen often anymore - timed release dates online, complete with their own teasers, tends to be more the thing. I imagine James Bond day will be a more enticing day for release than anything.

I mean, by and large the ‘attachment’ is still the thing studios work backwards from when dating a trailer’s online drop. Why have we gotten new trailers for Birds of Prey, The Good Liar, 1917 (tomorrow), Clint Eastwood’s latest (also due tomorrow probably) and Ritchie’s The Gentlemen in the last 48 hours - they’re all on Joker.

Even looking back at SP - teaser was in time for Furious 7, theatrical for MI Rogue Nation, final for The Walk (and even debuted theatrically with it around 2/3 days before it went online!)

I did not know that. Learn something new everyday.

With so many trailers in this week they will hold it till Saturday.

So unless I missed something, it was a disappointing Saturday morning as far as the teaser trailer goes. Any guesses as to when the next logical date/event/film to release the teaser trailer?

Um… next… Saturday?

Nobody knows really. Except EON.

Rationally it cannot be far away. While the rumour mill sold us anything from last week to this weekend there has to be some kind of progress on the thing and, judging by past examples, a trailer by November.

We’ll see how much water that theory holds…

EDIT: It just occurs to me Sir Roger would have celebrated his birthday next Monday. That’s not a date to push a trailer in theatres. But it would perhaps fit with some other means to provide publicity and be a nice gesture. Just a thought, mind you. November is probably still the better bet.

Out of interest, how do you all find out that a trailer’s dropped? I’m not big on social media so usually I just see it as a news story on the BBC, but this time I reckon I’ll log on to CBn as I do daily and find 137 unread posts across just a couple of threads!

I think we’ll know it’s coming in advance via the 007 twitter page…

I think so too. I don’t think there’s necessarily a rush! I know there’s president for the time between trailer and release, but that’s based on a November release.

With Christmas now in the way and then 3 months to release I’d imagine there’s some concern over it staying in the public imagination that long (speaking for myself, the cluster **** that is Christmas (relatives, presents, relatives) it kind of leaves me a little brain dead; anything that occurred before seems a very distant memory. So maybe they want to leave it a little later than usual.

For so long November’s been synonymous with Bond releases that I think they might wait until then; perhaps mid November (the 11th is Bond’s birthday!)

I mean, there’s also a question of when would the full trailer arrive…and whether they’ll do a third final trailer like with Spectre.

A big surprise for me would be them not having a second full trailer out in December in time for Star Wars. So assuming that is the plan, they’d have to have ample time for the teaser to breathe, which is why September/October was and still is the hope.

Now, we know that the teaser has been ready for some time - and if anything the poster is likely the biggest indicator that we should be expecting it any day now. Only reason they’d move it to November is if they want to recut it entirely.

Which is believable if there’s something they’ve filmed, since cutting that trailer, that they feel would be a very good selling point for the film. A memorial image that sells the film in a nutshell. Think Skyfall’s pan down shot of Bond from the roof of Whitehall, or Avengers spinning camera of the ensemble…

…or it could be just a timing thing, trying to avoid of entertainment news that could overshadow them.

For sure, though I’d imagine you can’t keep pushing it back forever without impacting the rest of the marketing timeline.

It’s just…it’s not like they’re only cutting it together now, it’s been done, hell it was seemingly due out alongside the poster (whenever that may have been, James Bond Day or otherwise) until the latest change of plans. Cold feet maybe? Who knows. Fingers crossed for this week I guess.

Currently all we have is some people saying it’s ready, along with the reasonable assumption that, sooner or later, it will come.

Actually know…we don’t. There can be literally any number of reasons why it hasn’t happened yet; reasons we don’t have the foggiest idea of, from marketing considerations to simple last-minute alterations. It can be on YouTube as we speak or still be weeks away. I don’t know is the only safe thing in this game.

I’d put money in CJF wanting time tweak before it’s released and Eon may want to keep him happy if their pleased with his work, hoping he’ll return. Now he’s at Pinewood those last minute tweaks are probably happening as we speak.
