That’s certainly the less popular but probably more realistic option.
Honestly, I don’t think a teaser trailer will be even started properly until filming is wrapped. There may be a storyboard/ rough cut somewhere but I think they will give the poster a few weeks to settle, then probably a teaser on November 11th
Indeed, i suggested so above - Bond’s birthday!
November 11 is also Remembrance Day (the name varies in different countries) for many western nations. It might not be a great date to release it.
They’re really leaving it late, now. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but I’m surprised it hasn’t even been rated yet. No teaser by mid-November when the film is practically out at the end of March? Very unusual.
But also quite intelligent.
Trailers are released constantly these days - and most of them are clicked on and forgotten.
Of course, an event movie like Bond will get more attention. But why add now the trailer to the bulk of Christmas releases?
It would be enough to start 2020 with the Bond trailer as the clear big event (nothing in the way to distract from it). I don’t see any big Christmas event film (apart from Star Wars, but that is Disney) which could add attention to Bond.
Personally I think it’s all about this run-up spanning a new year.
A new year always seems far off even when it’s next month. The nearer they leave the trailer to Xmas, the better that excitement might be remembered after December 31st.
I’m sure they will bombarded us from Jan 1st with ‘2020 is 007’s year’ from every possible angle.
Had the release been in 2019 we would’ve had the teaser at the usual time. Imo the wait is not a reflection of trouble in the edit, but just the altered release window.
It’s funny to think we were speculating about a teaser appearing back in August. I’m now resigned to it dropping in the new year - hopefully something more substantial that will have been worth the wait.
I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be a teaser and it’s going to be the full blown trailer now
Well, they do have the footage for it…
Looking at the release schedule for the following weeks - there could, of course, be the chance that EON will want to help Craig´s KNIVES OUT to get an extra thrust by attaching an exclusive trailer to it.
Well, it does have 2 of its cast…
An exclusive like that is very minimal though - and so seldom done today. And I’m sure MGM/Universal wouldn’t be too keen about giving such a boost to Lionsgate (if it even gives it a boost which it likely won’t)… But if the trailer’s already planned for early December to ensure it’s on Star Wars and given how many other films will be dropping stuff, why not get Bond out ahead before the rush & remind people seeing Knives Out that essentially its two leads reunite this April?
007 will be getting well out of the way of Disney+ and Star Wars launches imo
Trailers aren’t really dropped around movie releases anymore - its about finding days they can win the movie news headlines and be top of every page - that might not be til December or early next year.
A short marketing turn around would actually be pretty good for Bond - they get a lot of free press as is, so starting the trailers later and dropping them closer together wouldnt be a bad move
As someone who’s been following precisely how trailers are dropped for some time - they still are very much timed around movie releases. Distributors then work backwards from that to find an exact day for an online drop that would make them win the news cycle.
You can’t pinpoint an exact day or week months in advance out of the blue, which is why studios still use theatrical attachments/placement as an earmark. And when you have a film like Star Wars that’s gonna make massive box office from all demographics…you’re gonna want to get those eyeballs on Bond.
right… but I think its pretty unlikely that Disney are going to attach a Universal/United Artists (MGM/Annapurna) film trailer to possibly their biggest release of the year
They work backwards from film releases to make sure they are the big headline and avoid competition - they dont premiere a trailer online the week/day Star Wars is coming out (people arent seeing trailers in cinemas first anymore except for rare occasions)
But that’s not how it works, not up to Disney which trailers are attached (aside from two of their own in the US/Canada) but up to individual cinemas. Who then others like MGM/UA/Universal convince to play the trailer.
And yes they do premiere the week it’s coming out or week/s prior, generally. The day Star Wars releases would be the ‘release online by’ date. yes, people aren’t seeing trailers in cinemas first but trailers in cinemas with the right title, shown to the right audience, are still incredibly important.
Well, looking back at this old post, I did get my romantic angle request met. It’s going to be a huge part of the film too.
