What Bond movie do you feel like watching?

Seeing next week on the big screen

“You’re not a sportsman Mr Bond” So many classic lines.

And Moonraker has more in common with Fleming than reputation suggests.

Onto For Your Eyes Only. Interestingly, the third Bond film in a row with Italy as a locale. Do people want to whinge about that?

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been working my way through the whole series. Just finished DIE ANOTHER DAY, which is truly even worse than I remember. Definitely bottom of the pile.

The sight of the Aston Martin V8 that will be used in Bond 25 puts me in the mood for watching The Living Daylights tonight.

Watching Moonraker tonight in honor of its 40th anniversary…

I ADORE Moonraker. Silly, farfetched, and outlandish, it exemplifies the excesses of our beloved franchise, and it does so brilliantly. The score, visuals, humor, set design, action… almost everyone involved in this entry (at least behind the camera) was firing on all cylinders. Also, the PTS is one of my absolute favorites.

While I cannot objectively rank MR in my top five (maybe not even in my top ten), on a personal enjoyment level it is one that always puts a smile to my face. Hope you enjoy, TheDove.

I think a lot of us feel the same way

It’s my favorite Bondfilm of all time. Wish it was back here in the cinemas in The Netherlands.

A couple of months ago we bought a huge (and I mean very, very huge) television, so that makes up for a part, I suppose.

Loved it Tiin007…Sure it’s campy here and there and very far fetched, but every once in a while you need a Bond film like that and then have the next film brings things back to the ground like For Your Eyes Only. Plus John Barry’s score matched with Derek Meddings’ space models and the cinematography is just perfect.

I find Moonraker to be a lot of fun. The only criticisms I have are the poor theme song and the fact the film feels really long.

I actually think that Moonraker is my favorite of all the Shirley Bassey theme songs.

That’s cool. I can’t really pinpoint exactly what it is that makes me not like it, but there it is. My favorite of the Bassey themes is Diamonds are Forever. I also really like No Good About Goodbye and lament it not being the theme for Quantum of Solace.

Both observations are not facts.

It’s just a figure of speech. Yes, both ideas in that post are just my opinions and I’m not trying to say they aren’t.

Not having planned it, I watched MOONRAKER the other night–it came on cable, and I was sucked in as I always am.

The film moves effortlessly/surreally from one sequence to another, and no scene wears out its welcome. The film is held together by Moore’s wry command of the role, and Bond’s partnership with Dr. Goodhead is perfect. Lewis Gilbert even shows inklings of mise en scene.

I think of MOONRAKER as the redo of TSWLM (just as CASINO is the redo of GOODFELLAS and THE PASSENGER is the redo of ZABRISKIE POINT) where the second outing corrects the flaws of the first.

But wat was You only live twice then? A try out?:slightly_smiling_face:

Different decade and different Bond. In TSWLM, Gilbert fashions Moore as Commander Bond, and it was a good fit for the actor. In MR, he does some slight alterations–some taking in here and letting out there–and does a villain upgrade from Stromberg (who always seems to have just woken up from a nap) to Drax–my favorite villain–Michel Lonsdale’s performance is a special effect unto itself.

Michael Lonsdale absolutely kills it… he really is effortlessly the greatest Bond villain with his deadpan, almost bored, delivery of a script that absolutely sparkles…”You appear with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season.” It’s outrageous and I love it!
