One of my best mates in England (who is only a very casual Bond fan) said to me…
“Dave, we know the plot. It’s a Bond movie. Big stunt, then the song, scene with M, scene with Q, kiss girl 1, car chase, casino, kiss girl 2, bad guy tells Bond his plan, and it all ends up with Bond in the arms of girl 2!”
This movie is never getting released. It’ll become the stuff of legend. The missing Bond movie. We’re jumping right to Bond 26 as the next theatrical release.

It’s honestly pretty amazing and impressive that all of these films that are sitting complete and are continually being delayed haven’t been leaked online.
So, why October?
Because, if it indeed becomes possible to release a film then, it will be in theaters before the new M:I.
That’s the only reason they went for the October date. Probably hoping that it can either make enough money in those four weeks or that all release dates will be shifted again anyway.
The biggest irony would be if the number crunchers afterwards found out that a PVOD release would have brought much more revenue.
Sony follows suit across the board.
Another thing: the availability of IMAX screens. Always a problem, even in pre-COVID19-times.
As soon as films can be released again, it will be an onslaught of dates, and all the money studios thought they could generate will be fought over vigorously.
I´m sure a big part of world wide audiences will want to return to theaters once it is safe. But I also bet that a big part will remain cautious or prefer to wait since so much entertainment now is available at home.
Again, WB has the strategy of the future…
What do we make of the fact that October 8th is a Friday?

I thought Nov '20 and Apr '21 were both highly unlikely as soon as they were announced. I’m optimistic about Oct '21.
I agree that M:I is looming large. But as the end credits roll on the current wave of the virus, we should all pay heed to those last few words: Covid will return. Winter* may see an upswing in reluctance to visit a cinema.
They probably won’t rake in what they would have 2-3 years ago - but I suspect it’s as good as they’ll get. For now at least, October seems to me like a good call.

In Germany, new films (used to) start on Thursdays.
Yeah in a bunch of countries like Germany or the UK you can bet the ‘official’ opening date becomes October…007.
(and Thursday night previews are the norm in any case in the US too)
perhaps it might end up hitting PVOD after these 4 weeks! A PVOD release in lieu of a cinema release though (remember that the WB/HBO Max strategy is different since that’s a streaming SVOD service), it seems enough number crunching has been done that pretty much no one is doing it now. Always after several weeks’ window, the theory behind it being most of the film’s box office will have been earned in the first 2-3 weeks at the cinema, without much point holding it off home viewing for another 10-12 weeks.
It’s just that the statement explicitly says
“No Time To Die will be released in cinemas globally on 8 October 2021”
Bearing in mind that (as you pointed out) different countries have different “standard” days on which movies usually start, this seems odd. If it stays like that, there’ll most likely be no big premiere tour around the world (lucky if they can have a World Premiere in London at all). Smells a bit as if they’re keeping the option of a simultaneous streaming start on the same weekend…

I think that’s a given at this point. I just roll my eyes now when MGM claims “we regret we have to move this film, blah blah blah.” I have no confidence Oct 2021 will hold. I’m starting to be of the mind that we’re all being trolled and this film doesn’t actually exist. Daniel Craig said he’d rather slit his wrists than do another. I keep feeling that I’m on the cusp of waking up to find out that ***** actually won the election or succeeded in his insurrection. We never went to the moon. Who killed Kennedy? What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Am I only here if I think I am? Are we jacked into the Matrix? Oh no, I think I’m fading away. No Time To Die because we don’t exist to be able to die…
It’s more the warped mind of a studio executive. They KNOW better than what history has told them!

I and many others waited 40 years for THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND to be released. NTTD is a walk in the park.
