The question remains - with the third wave building up to wash away at least April and May, will there be another wave afterwards which will splash away after a once again too carelessly spent summer, just in time for October to again warrant a hard lockdown?
NTTD can’t catch a break. Gee, that movie now really will have to be absolutely magnificent to avoid the feeling of “oh, my, and we waited all this time for… this?”
The hope is that in US and UK and other major markets where the vaccine rollout is accelerating, is that there won’t have to be lockdowns anymore.
I’d love that, but I’m confident the score and making of book are only coming out when the film does.
So cinemas potentially reopening 17 May in the UK. Bring forward the release date and just get this movie out there.
Yes, by now it feels as if the first chance they get they ought to take. Doubt that it will happen this way though. If theatres open mid-May - and can stay open! - they might perhaps ponder a July/August release rather than going for autumn again.

I mean, all kidding aside - that’s what Universal has updated UK cinemas with today on official schedules kept by Comscore!
I’d expect an announcement from Eon and MGM/Universal’s PR sharpish now…in fairness release date changes (aside from major major ones that are affecting the US) don’t really get press releases or announcements issues unless it’s alongside a still, trailer, social post etc. Dune has officially been moved to September 15-17 internationally and that hasn’t been actually announced to the press!

I really was just kidding (badly). September or October are so far away, who knows how the virus and the responses will turn out in the meantime.

Same. Even if the podcast and marketing campaign resumes it means little.
I could see the reasoning behind trying for a late summer release now: that the box office of any film will be somewhat damaged is not really a big surprise, also that summer is going to have a favourable impact on the pandemic regardless how far the vaccination effort is in different countries.
On the other hand we can expect Covid-19 to play a role until a global rollout of vaccines is reaching significant parts of the population; in all likelihood another year, depending on how mutations change the situation.
So the way to let NO TIME TO DIE finally earn money is to release it this summer, ideally before autumn may or may not spoil the fun again.
