Who do you want for Bond 7?

And I’ve read he can’t drive stick! :exploding_head:

I did love Eon pointing out its virtually impossible to do that in the UK

That BS made it even into the German edition of one of those Schott’s Almanac. Bloody nonsense even the freshman intern could debunk with a couple of phone calls - if the tabloids hadn’t already set their minds on tanking Craig.

In retrospect I sometimes think if a different actor would have led to a different conclusion and Bond still would belong to the Broccolis…

I don’t think it would have mattered who the actor was. The Craig and Brosnan eras mirror each other so closely that I have to think that they just ran out of ideas. I can’t imagine that Craig was the one that was beating the drum for a stretch of films that in a lot of ways mirror what his predecessor was doing.

Interesting question: would another actor have lead to a different outcome? Perhaps a more ‘conventional’ Colin Farrell* Bond? Humhum…

I’d say it’s unlikely Bond would have been killed in the end. That one seems a particular - though fitting - outcome of the Bond-centred ‘character arc’ they were pursuing with Craig. But overall I agree there’d likely have been a similar creativity drain over however many films the alternative would have done. Maybe the crunch would have come a film or two sooner even.

The thing is, had Eon had huge plans for Bond’s future - new directions to explore, unforeseen twists, anything really - then they’d likely have signalled so already after NTTD. And searched for their candidate to kick off the next era. That didn’t happen for a reason.

*Just picking Farrell because he’s proven also a bit on the aspirational side while never quite breaking into top tier A list territory.

I agree. Even though DAD has the prevailing reputation of the ice wave CGI, it did introduce elements that became more prominent in the Craig era. That’s the way things were trending, with or without Brosnan. He was also expressing a desire for something more stripped down with the Tarantino CR idea. When you go down the postmodern, character study road it just keeps going until you reach the type of end we saw in NTTD.

A very good comparison I’ve seen states Broccoli and Saltzman were running a very good fish and chip shop. A popular, quality product with a fast turnaround. The replacements came and acted like it was a gourmet restaurant, with longer wait times.

I still wonder whether Gregg Wilson could have stepped in and taken over the EON brand or why he did not.

I imagine that BB wanted out but also felt that Amazon was just too difficult to deal with.

So no matter who had played Bond, it was Amazon which killed the EON era.

Barbara and MGW at their peak always could put MGM in their place.

But if none of their children are willing to carry the torch, what’s the point of fighting to keep the legacy alive?

From what I’ve seen:
• MGW’s older son seems more interested in tech and has been investing his father’s money into AI startups.
• His younger son is pursuing DJing and other creative ventures.
• Barbara’s daughter leans toward art films and more independent projects.

None of them have shown any serious interest in taking over Bond.

And honestly, that’s not all that surprising. It’s something we see everywhere across countries and cultures where the next generation simply isn’t as invested in continuing the family business or legacy.

Cue our own children; anecdotal evidence suggests it’s a rarity if they connect to Bond the way we did. :man_shrugging:t3:

But I think maybe Farrell*Bond wouldn´t have wanted to go from rookie Bond to old Bond in three films? That´s the thing I struggle the most with: not the end but the boring way to it after QOS

I heard it was a delicatessen…still didn’t end too well for the owner sadly

Is it still open? I heard they used stainless steel. Those last a long time.

It was very good, indeed, with the fast turnaround you note. There is a nostalgia element to what they served, which is on display in the 4K versions.

There was an upgrade, similar to my local supermarket becoming a gourmet market place (and now undergoing another transformation, including a sushi bar). Bond movies, like my local supermarket, provide sustenance, and what counts as sustenance changes over time.

That´s what I always love about Brosnan: you always think: this guy really wanted to do this…

We’ve had that before, and I have a prime suspect who could be behind this. I wonder who’ll be the poor innocent fools to pay the price this time around. Last time, it was CBn. It almost killed the site…
