Who do you want for Bond 7?

Wouldnt you be if you were gay and looked like that?

That is a rather rude and homophobic response I would say.

I’m being glib.

If I’m being honest, Bomer has made a career out of faking confidence in the worst circumstances. White Collar and Doom Patrol are fictionalised versions of Bomers own life, as a gay man growing up in a small conservative town. The fact he turned his own pain and persecution into a strength, and indeed a career, is to be lauded.

I’d point to his role as Bryce Larkin in Chuck. Everything about him says you should hate him (stole Chuck’s girlfriend, is the ex of new love interest, stole military secrets), but Bomer injects the character with so much charm that you can’t stop yourself from taking his side.

I am a big supporter of the idea of Rupert Friend as Bond, but by the time the next bond is announced his age might be an handicap.

Other than him I’ve got no idea who would be a good 007

I’ve got no clear choice for the next 007, only that he should not have so much influence on the content of the movies, just be the employee of the month that is it.

Re that homosexual/homophobic theme: this is something I never, in over 40 years of being a fan, cared a lot about. I’m watching Bond on screen and what the actors do in their private lives is no concern of mine. One of the missed chances I truly regret is Jeremy Brett as Bond.

For the same reason perhaps I don’t care particularly if the actor is American - as long as the character is played as Brit, and convincingly so. Would we have wanted to miss out on Connery or Craig had they been Americans?

Sadly, it will be a handicap with Rupert Friend. The possibility of having him as Bond will be another victim of the ridiculously long period of time between films in the Craig era. I think he would have been fantastic.

I think Friend could still pass himself as 29 going on 31. What age is Friend now…? Oh I see…

Anyway, I’m no longer sold on the notion the next Bond will be significantly young and youthful. I currently think a big reboot would best go down with audiences if it’s going to cut right to the seasoned and well versed Bond in the mid of his career. No origin story, no relevancy doubts. A start like Moore had with LIVE AND LET DIE.

I don’t think that they’ll go with the youthful Bond in terms of the approach to the story, as they kind of did with CR. I just think they’ll have to go considerably younger than we’re used to since it takes them FOREVER to get these films out now. If you hire a guy in his forties for the part when he makes his debut, at the rate they’re going, you’ll be lucky to get three movies out of him.

Now, if they could go back to getting these films out every two, three years max, then Friend could potentially still be in the fray, depending on how long it takes them to get the search underway. I have to figure that, if he’s in the age bracket they’re looking for when they start the search, he’ll be under consideration given how well his reading for CR is said to have gone.

It does, but what length it’ll take really depends on MGM’s solvency…if they survive the next recession…

I agree. I believe if The Batman with Robert Pattinson is successful, they’ll go for a younger 007 - but not an origin story - like you say @dalton

Also when I say younger I mean early to mid 30s.

My two choices are Callum Turner and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

I hope Pattison’s Batman will work it would be nice to have a younger 007 one who can do a few more movies while looking youthful.

Then again I would not mind Pattison as 007 either. Fine actor with a new fanbase coming to the franchise is welcome.

Is he gay? I have no idea.

Bomer is, yes. Good on him, doesn’t count him out for Bond in my view. What I would prefer though was somebody less conventionally handsome. I think a big advantage for an actor is a face with a ā€˜character’ (for lack of a better word) edged into it.

What would you think of Callum Turner in the role @saintmark? I don’t think Rob will get the chance now he’s Batman I’m afraid.

Also, @Dustin @BondFan, the only American actor I see in the role is Christopher Abbott. He looks British as well which could be an advantage for him.

Callum Turner is an unknown to me so I find that hard to say based upon pictures.

That’s fair. He’s a little young looking atm, but give a few years and he’ll be ready I’m sure. Check out his performances in Queen and Country, The Capture, and Fantastic Beasts 2.

Although Callum seems like an obvious choice, he even played Brosnan’s son, I kinda feel he’s all looks but no edge. After Craig I think it would be a shame to go back to that. I prefer Bond to be a little bit more interesting.

I would say that of him now for sure @Irrigator; but again taking into consideration the four to five year wait I imagine we’re in for before we get anything from Bond 26, I’d say he’s got the time to prove his worth. He’s getting even better as he ages in my opinion. You should see how much he’s developed as an actor already in the past five years - since Queen and Country for example.

While it wasn’t a great film, I love that he played Brosnan’s son in The Only Living Boy in New York. Also any guy who can convincingly woo Kate Beckinsale has a shot at being 007

I do hope we’ll get a new 007 movie before 2024 or 2025
