Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 (2023/2024)

A cost of at least $290 million…

That is one great stiry behind the scenes.

Only in one aspect badly researched: when Cruise started the films in 2020 there was no vaccine yet.

Kinda feel The Hollywood Reporter of all places would know both, given they’re humans that study and report on films for a living, neither should be hard to find information for anyone working there…

Having re-read that portion of the story, I think it’s a matter of a really poorly worded paragraph rather than bad research.

The article brought up the issue of whether they were vaccinated because Cruise and McQuarrie caught Covid in June 2021 in Abu Dhabi, when there were vaccines. But the article did clumsily make it sound like it had been when they were shooting in Italy.

I agree. It gets confusing the way it is mentioned in the chronology.

Glad I’m not the only one who was confused by that segment. I’m wondering if it was an availability/overseas thing. I think in the U.S. at that point it didn’t matter if you had insurance or citizenship to get the vaccine at that point, but not sure what the deal was in Abu Dhabi.

I could not get my first shot until the middle of July 2021 in Germany.

Then again, Tom Cruise can do anything.

Ironically the month they both caught it was the month they were first eligible to get the vaccine in Abu Dhabi.

You can also still test positive if you are vaccinated, it’s just not going to kill you.

That’s the most important thing - and people are, unfortunately, so quick to forget or never listen to this.

By the way, THR does have a thing for depicting Cruise in an unfavorable light, probably due to Scientology. Which is understandable since, well, everybody knows. But for an article which is about the production schedule and (really clever) maneuvers Cruise and McQuarrie pull to keep the studio away from their vision the vaccination status of both is not relevant, IMO.

A teaser trailer for M:I Dead Reckoning Part 1 has leaked online. I managed to see it on Twitter and it looks like Christopher McQuarrie’s love letter to Bond. I spotted so many references and homages. I saw a bit of For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, The Living Daylights, GoldenEye, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, I’m sure there’s more.

Looks good although I’m not sure if the trailer for 100% complete. It felt like it lacked a bit of polish in terms of trailers but the footage itself looks good.

Sounds excellent. I’m waiting to see the trailer for the first time before Top Gun: Maverick on Thursday.

I’m not saying McQuarrie is definitely a Bond fan but…

It was a “blink and you miss it” sort of nod. Also, that’s a DB6 not a DB5, but it is a nice wink.

The fact you took the time to check does mean it worked.

To steal an observation from Steven Moffat - “It’s not the fact you can see the strings, but after so long you’re still looking at them”

Actually I just noticed it looking at the above frame.

The rear slope was the change between the 5 and 6.

Good to know. Seems obvious now you pointed it out…

I’m now wondering if they couldn’t get a DB5 (I’m aware that the one in Goldeneye had to be rented from Jeremy Clarkson)

Also wanting to play Bloodstone, Agent Under Fire or oo7 racing to use the db5…

Probably just a last minute thing wrangling background set cars. Besides, the front two thirds are the same as a DB5.
