Grislier than a full Zerbe-splosion?
Maybe eaten by a giant squid
Strangled with a pink tie from DAF.
Bless him, heās a bit shaky on his Bond lore.
Sāpose one should be forgiving though.
Russian gulag! I wonder how much of the aborted story will surface down the line. Either in following films or hearsay.
I do love what he said about trying to craft memorable images that run through your mind long after seeing the film. That was an enjoyable watch.
Yeah, the sloping walled ālairā certainly does look beautiful, in a haunting way.
As for the weekly costs of sound stages in Pinewood, I do know that the smaller ones in the new area cost upward of Ā£30k per week. Canāt imagine the 007 stage would be anything less than Ā£50k/week.
Youād think the people who built it would get at least a bit of a discount.
Good point.
But for that to be true, we do not know the financial arrangements when it was first built. While Cubby built it āforā Spy, was it his money?
I cannot imagine that Pinewood would allow any old Tom, Dick or Harry to build studios on their land without any future earnings potential. I would imagine (complete guess) Cubby spent the $1m building it in return for a commensurate number of free weeksā use before it reverted to Pinewood ownership. Canāt imagine Bond films getting free or reduced cost usage in perpetuity.
Indeed. He said they studied past Bond sets to honour components they liked. Weāve already picked up on Dr. Noās Crab Key lair, but I feel the Liparus set from TSWLM and TNDās stealth boat could also be possible influences. Will be interesting to see.
A new image of the V8 Vantage:
Amazing car. Period
I would have preferred this over the omnipresent DB5 for the last 14 years.
I donāt mind the DB5, but shoehorning it into 8 of the last 10 Bond films was just gratuitous (and yes Iām including its appearance on the heat radar in TWINE).
This may be the only time the accusation of being gratuitous didnāt land on Die Another Day.
In a fancy bit of irony, the gratuitous DB5 scene was skipped for Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace.
Which in hindsight appears to be quite a miracle, given the buckets of more or less subtle references to the past they shoveled into that one. But of course, they had the supercar of all supercars which was destined to make the DB5 look like old hat and of which any possibility of any kind of shadow being cast upon it had to be avoided: the (tada) invisible (sic!) Aston Martin Vanquish, which to this day turns more heads than any DB5 ever didā¦

I have always wanted to run a poll querying the more ridiculous Aston Martin:
The time-travelling, time-defying DB5 orā¦the invisible Vanquish.
And I canāt believe Iām saying this, this is one of few occasions where Iām siding with DAD⦠
