Best headline I saw today:
“James Bond is Back… on antidepressants.”

I love it. It’s a nice blend of Skyfall and Writing’s on the Wall. If I were ranking the songs of the Daniel Craig era I would comfortably put it at number two on my list.
I like all the songs of the Craig era even WotW. If only Sam had simply wrote it and got someone else to sing.
I’m seeing the same
LOL so true Bond is Back on anti-depressants. I was hoping for something energetic like Bush’s Bullet Holes from John Wick chapter 3. This one seems too familiar.
I’m just gonna lay this out there - if you have the capability, play this song at 1.5 speed.
Now THAT’S better
They have corrected it since Finneas O’Connel was asked on Twitter about the line; here is the link to the thread and the comments.
Very well played. Billie is a hot product at the moment, especially after the Grammys. She has a strong following, from what I gather. Her NTTD song is getting favourable reviews, and millions of listens. I don’t think they could have done a better job in terms of promotion and selection.
What’s more, a considerable part of those six million plus views are probably from Eilish’s fanbase, that’s the target audience the series as a whole will need in the post-Craig days, youngsters who may like Bond but wouldn’t necessarily have made the next film a priority if it wasn’t for her involvement.
Though I did tweet out some thoughts last night and this morning, wanted to let this marinate a bit before coming up with something more cohesive for this thread haha.
It’s really a perfect - imo - bookend to the Craig era and more specifically You Know My Name. Both songs very raw feeling in terms of vocals but they’re coming in from opposing POVs - Cornell with the rock representing a younger, more arrogant and rookie Bond, and Eilish’s being just two steps beyond Bond in his prime, with the more traditional orchestration. As others have also pointed out - it does sound like a combination of SF and WOTW but I’d argue that’s almost intentional…first, the whole notion of this film wrapping up the Craig era, as well as the ‘improving on Spectre’ aspect. Eilish knocked out of the park what Smith didn’t really get 100% last time round. But really the best thing about this - Zimmer and Marr’s involvement - is how clearly and deeply it appears to be woven in with whatever happens in the film’s opening scenes, as a key part of the narrative in its own right almost. And ultimately that’s what it’s best judged as rather than some larger context of how it works outside the film. Hence, why I think the criticism of ‘it’s not bold enough/it doesn’t pump you up/too depressing’ doesn’t make sense because that context within the film - which one can glean from the trailers - is crucial. That being said, though it may just be the lack of time, YKMN and Skyfall both still have an element of being iconic, but I guess time will tell how this will stand up against those. But 100% a stronger song than WOTW and AWTD.
You really think that because of this song someone under 20 who´s not a Bond fan thinks: oh, I love Billie and her pyjamas. Why don´t we go to the cinema and watch a film where the main cast is over 40? I really hope so…
Absolutely
They don’t know Bond…but know the ages of all the cast…okay…
Maybe a few of them have eyes and can look at the posters…or know a name like Fiennes or Craig from another franchise
I’ve said it before somewhere, the song will not convert the don’t-cares to fans. What it will do is put it on the map of those who may have had other priorities otherwise. It’s not about getting you inside a theatre with a hundred kids - you are going anyway. It’s getting the kids into the seats when before they might have waited for the blue ray, getting them interested and involved beyond the white noise buzz that’s constantly on.
In short, make it an event again for them.
I guarantee you there will be more Billie EIlish fans in the theatre than you think, maybe not full of them but I think there will be a few - there have been a few cases now of fans of musicians launching “support the movie” campaigns etc… and going to see it to make sure their fav musician’s movie gets to #1 even for just a song so I’d say there would be at least some amount who will go see the film just because of the song
I think so, too.
Also, it’s not as if films with actors in their forties are absolutely streng verboten for teens and twentysomethings - for a large part of my life I’ve watched films depicting people older than I was; it only changed during the last 20 years…
Guys, it’s brilliant. I got chills as soon as she said “now you’ll never see me cry, there’s just no time to die” for the first time LOVE IT!!
Yes, but you had to…there were probabely about 5 good big budget movies for YA with young actors between 1980 and 2000.
Whether or not it’s a huge number of people, this song is definitely gonna get bums on seats.
Now that doesn’t mean they’ll be converted Bond fans, they’ll just go see the film and maybe have a nice evening, and then forget about it, but at least it does something for the film’s numbers anyway.
In that way, it’s like voting, you’re vote might not make a difference, but it’s added something to it.
