Because it’s already out, maybe it will be also on the soundtrack cd/lp like it used to be.
That hasn’t happened in 18 years.
Oh yes, it was on the QoS cd.
That’s 12 years ago.
Oh, I see it now. The last track. Good catch!
I’m pretty sure Duran Duran brought youngsters to AVTAK, and I’ve no doubt Eilish fans will be…umm…downloading a Hong Kong bootleg of NTTD as soon as they get around to it.
What this HAS done is earned EON another week or so of news items that include the phrase “upcoming Bond film…” As marketing ploys go, it’s cheaper than buying enough TV ads or billboards to reach the same number of potential consumers.
Kid: “Ohmigod, Billie Eilish did the song for the new James Bond movie!”
Parent: “Ohmigod, there’s a new Bond movie?!”
Grandparent: “Ohmigod, I did live long enough after all!”
It’s quite haunting. No bombasticity whatsoever.
Quite a departure. In style and artist.
But, I loved it after the very first listen…
Not for me, thanks. I don’t like her voice (which is kind of a problem for me with anything she sings) and I don’t like the song, so… it’s just not for me. I hope it does well and people enjoy it but the film joins Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace as having themes I’ll skip on compilation albums. But if other people are digging it… cool.
In terms of slower ballads I’m a fan of Sheryl Crowe’s effort, which has more of the trademark Bondian flourishes. But I’m also a fan of Billie’s song, and I like it a lot more than I thought I would. It’s pensive - and really feels like a dive inside Bond’s heart and mind. Lyrically it is a proper sequel to WOTW. A man who felt love now feels like a fool who fell for lies.
This point makes me wonder if we’re going to re-watch Spectre in a different light… depending on what really happens in NTTD of course…
I’ve felt that for quite some time now. As the final chapter, SPECTRE may not have hit the heights it needed to, but as a middle entry? It may seem less frustrating in hindsight, and I say that as a fan of it.
Yes, Spectre rewrote some of the elements of Skyfall, and now NTTD is going to change Spectre forever.
Back to the song - if they’d given it to Shirley Bassey, even Idina Menzel, what a difference it would make.
Fantastic new Finneas interview going into the details of how they landed the gig and decisions such as keeping the No Time To Die title
Great interview. He seems to really know his stuff, and comes across very well. It’s great to see someone so clearly excited to be part of the Bond universe.
Shirley Bassey has already sung two too many Bond songs.
You know you can be hung drawn and quartered for such blasphemy
“Into the lake! With weights tied to his feet!”
Preferably a frozen lake, with a masked gunman standing above the condemned soul.
Yes, I understand. Thankfully, I am hiding behind the secrecy of the internet to speak my mind.
But less is more. Could you imagine if she had sung every Bond song? That would be grating. We need variety and today’s generation wouldn’t take Bassey’s over the top style seriously.
DAF slowed things down after GF but MR didn’t offer much new. So, maybe she sang just one too many.
The Beatles were in their early 20s when Please Please Me was released. Billie is currently 18 years old. Even more so than someone like Jack White you can say she’s the future of the industry, whether she’s to our general tastes or not. For this particular song, I’m one of her biggest cheerleaders.
And one too few, but there’s no good about goodbye.
