“Misguided” is a very glossy term for the damage inflicted on them. Especially, the women and the children.

Looking at the official Bond twitter feed it strikes me as utterly amusing that someone there still has the job to put up almost daily gifs, as if that could keep audiences interested in an upcoming film release which is not coming for quite some time.
We‘re not getting paid for doing that here, yet I think we‘re having much more fun.

Well, Bond always featured great running gags.
It’s ironic. As slow as NTTD is to announce delays, they are way ahead of the school district I work for. Last year, when NTTD was delayed, I told administration that this was serious. They laughed it off. Ten days later we were closed.
This year they were planniing to open January 19th since October. Even when data pointed out that was outlandishly impossible (I live in California), they stuck to their guns until January 8th. I think they’re eyeing February now, but even under the most ideal circumstances it won’t be before March of April. When NTTD gets officially moved six months down the road, I will inform them of this harbinger that schools won’t open (in CA, at least) this school year.
At least the James Bond channel on Pluto TV appears to be a permanent fixture.

It left on January 1, 2021… At least it’s not on mine any longer. I looked as recently as last night.

I read an article outlining who is most likely to buy MGM, based on cash and needs. Amazon, NBC/Comcast and Apple would seem to be the most likely
This may increase the likelihood that NTTD gets streamed this year.

I’m hoping for Disney but I’m expecting Apple.
I’d still be somewhat surprised if Bond streamed if MGM is bought. Bond is the only thing that was making MGM any money. After spending the untold amount of money that this will cost for the buyer, are they really going to turn around and put their most valuable property on display in such a way that will keep them from making money?
They’d also, presumably, have to get Universal on board as well, since they control the international release.

If the loan interest charges are to be believed, there Will be a tipping point beyond which it will be impossible to make a profit? We might be a long way off that from the normal profits normally made from Bond.
But with no way of knowing what a return to cinemas might look like, much less the durations involved, there will be much crystal ball gazing.

It definitely means that a future Bond film is way, way off. AND it will probably have to be done on a much smaller budget, resulting in different stories and production value. Which might turn out a very good thing for Bond.

Without a clear path to recoup investments buying MGM and getting into the Bond business also means you’ll need to plan for the long game, mid to end 20s and beyond. Not many players can shoulder such a venture, waiting out half a decade or longer and basically start from scratch then.

I’ve just accepted the fact that NTTD is going to be pushed back to 2022 now to coincide with the 60th anniversary.
To make up for the constant delays they will re-market it with all the jazz and bells and whistles as the “60th ANNIVERSARY JAMES BOND FILM…CELEBRATE 60 YEARS of 007 BY BOOKING YOUR IMAX TICKET NOW” etc.
I think they will do everything in their power not to put it on a streaming service.

That’s entirely possible - if it’s possible at all.
With MGM in the market to find itself a buyer the pressure is on them to keep paying bills and withstand interest piling up. We might even see another sequestration manoeuvre, depending on when the credit lines run out.
They certainly want to do everything they can to avoid a streaming premiere. It just may not be entirely in their hands any longer.

That would be rather disappointing. 60 years of Bond… and after the 50th year we even got… um… one more movie… and now to start the next decade we give you a movie which is… two years old.
Just get it out, one way or the other, within the next few months, and then give us the new Bond for the 65th anniversary.
It would be silly should Bond films only be released to coincide with anniversaries, and it wouldn´t help to underline its vibrancy. “Ooh, Bond films, those only are out when they celebrate their past, right?”

Waiting for this announcement is hideous. It’s like waiting for my service charge bill: I know it’s coming, I know it won’t be nice and sadly I know it will be followed by another in 6 months😭

Guess that the wait for the announcement is not because of the question wether it gets postponed again. This should be quite clear, anything else would be commercial suicide. It’s certainly about the new premiere date. They have to find a compromise between on one hand the desire of not making the wait to long and finally getting a revenue from the several hundred million dollar investment and on the other hand a certain safety that cinemas will be open and that it’s safe enough for people to go there.
First half of this year? No way. August/September? Very doubtful. November? Maybe. Depends on how things go and what competition has plans for November, too. There need to be talks in the background. When we get to the point that it’s safe to re-open cinemas, everyone wants to have their movie out and make money, that’s totally understandable. But if they all bring their movies out within the first two weeks, no one’s going to make good business, because people still won’t be able to afford going to the cinema each night and watch them all. If they want to save their business, the companies have to act in concert, everything else is bogus.

The release dates for November almost prevent a good opening, especially with rival M:I. Imagine NTTD losing or missing the No.1 position to it, or being unfavorably compared to it.
I fear they will have to move it to 2022.
