I think we’ll still end up surprised. How many names did we hear about the last time that were “sure things” or part of a supposed “final four” that were never really in contention for the part? More than I can count.

The obvious problem for Lowden would be his job in one of Apple TV’s most prestigious series (which gets more popular with every new season). Herron can probably spin that for another five books and Apple could comfortably adapt them all or combine some for at least three more seasons.
I don’t see that happening with the current Bond in one of the lead roles…

You make a good point. If it was an Amazon show, they might still be willing to cast Jack Lowden to do both; but since Slow Horses is produced by Apple, it does seem unlikely they would go that route for the reason you mentioned.
However, this isn’t EON circa 1986/7. This is a new ownership group and new times, so who knows?

There’s also the (theoretical) possibility it turns into a contest between Bezos and Apple. If they were really really set on Lowden, that is. Which I don’t yet think is the case. It would probably only happen if Bezos and Villeneuve were absolutely sold on Lowden and decided to buy him out of Slow Horses no matter what.

With Slow Horses i do seem to recall they film two seasons at once because of Gary Oldman or was that just the first 2?

They seem to always get renewed for two seasons, seven and eight most recently. By which time they will have reached Clown Town, so far the last one published in 2025. Herron probably has another one ready but so far there’s nothing announced and they could actually wrapping production on these seasons before the 10. book is published.
