I haven’t paid Jack O’Connell much attention, but he does fit the bill of someone who could “kill you with his bare hands in a trice.” If that really was the physical presence required for the new Bond. I could see him working in the role.

The problem is Jack O’Connell is listed at only 5’7.5" and that’s too short. He’s the opposite of Jacob Elordi who, at 6’5", is too tall.
The James Bond actor should be in the 5’10" to 6’3" range where the cameraman and/or director doesn’t have to do camera tricks to make a 007 either look taller or shorter when in a scene with their co-stars.

Still, in my mind, Elordi is much too tall, Mescal and O’ Donnell are too small, Turner is not looking like Bond at all.
Lowden is the only great choice.

Been thinking about this whole tallness matter. It never bothered me with Craig, never bothered me with Cruise. It probably makes casting and shooting more difficult than it would with somebody within in the ‘expected’ range of height. But is it a dealbreaker? Not for me.
Strangely, I’d probably be more concerned if the new guy were massively younger than usual - although it doesn’t bother me in First Light. And I’d surely get used to it if that were a film.

Mescal is the same height as Daniel Craig and could, presumably, bulk up for the role if need be, although I don’t really think he’d need to.
Of the names we’ve heard, he’s the only one I have much interest in seeing in the part. Given the unlimited funds at Amazon MGM’s disposal, I really wish they’d expand the search to include people in their 40s. There’s no reason why, with an aggressive production schedule moving forward, that someone starting out in their early 40s couldn’t put out 5-6 films before aging out of the role.

Daniel Craig is 5’10", so his height was ok even though he is the shortest James Bond 007. Tom Cruise is only 5’7", but then he’s also not playing Bond, so his lack of height is not a huge deal in general.
As for a Bond actor’s age, I think someone in their 20s is too young. Bond is a man of worldly experience. He’s been through and done a lot things and seen a lot things and that needs to be visible in the actor’s appearance. George Lazenby is the youngest 007 cast and he was 30 when On Her Majesty’s Secret Service came out–29 during filming–and that is as young as an actor should be starting out his Bond tenure.
On the other end of the spectrum is Roger Moore who was 45 when he started–though he looked a bit younger–and that is the outer limit I would go for a 007 starting out his run, especially now with us getting up to three years in between films instead of the old two-year gaps. And even with a three-year gap a 45-year-old 007 could still realistically do four films–45/46, 48/49, 51/52, 54/55. I also think that 55 should be the Bond actor’s mandatory retirement age–nothing after that.
So, in short, a James Bond 007 actor needs to be either British, Irish, Australian, Kiwi, or South African; someone who is between 30-45 years of age, and somewhere between 5’10" and 6’3". Piece of cake.

Amazon, however, might not and start with a young and inexperienced bro who looks „hot“.
And strangely, a young Connery or Lazenby looked much more refined than the blokes who are thirty now.
