Now is when the rumors/leaks start getting more exciting. If there is anything to this, I’d bet we here something sooner than later.

Even with 36 in YOLT Connery easily looked, um, much more mature - and I love that.
This is what Bond is: a mature, seasoned specialist.
I still fear that the Lowden rumours are only pushed due to the imminent release of the new SLOW HORSES season.
But if he gets chosen I will be much more relaxed and confident in Amazon‘s ideas for Bond.

I tend to think that Oldman is right about them having picked the new Bond. I think they’ve known for a while, or at least have had a pretty good idea. I just hope he’s wrong about the short list. Of all of the names that we’ve seen that have been somewhat credibly linked to this, I have yet to see one that gets me even remotely close to the level of excitement that I had for Craig’s candidacy way back in the day.

Seems like he’s referring to tabloid headlines rather than real inside knowledge to me. I think he’s more or less right, though. If they haven’t finalised their choice yet they’re very close to doing so. James Bond Day is October 5. Would be a good date as any to announce something.

Lowden would be by far the best choice of the bunch and I would be happy with him as Bond. I think he has the ability to embrace both the fun and serious side of the character, which I think will be crucial. The others I really really hope are not seriously considered.
That being said, even with Lowden, I am not 100% sold. I don’t know, maybe my image of Bond has been shaped so much by the first five actors. But when I see those guys even outside of Bond, they just have this Bondian charm that is kind of difficult to describe. Watching Roger Moore in the Saint or Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steele it’s very easy to understand that the producers were like ‘‘there’s your next James Bond, no need to look further.’’, same with Connery, Lazenby and Dalton as well. And even actors who were considered but didn’t get cast had the ‘‘thing’’ to them. I never really got that with Craig, even though I liked him in Casino Royale (and no it’s not just the looks) and I kind of have the same now with the names mentioned. The only actors ever mentioned in the last few years that I was like ‘‘yes’’ were Aiden Turner (has a bit of Brosnan/Dalton vibe) and Theo James (Connery vibe) and I guess they would have been seriously considered had they actually not wasted so much time in the 11 years since Spectre, but oh well. My vote goes to Lowden from the, apparently, serious contenders.

I wonder how Richard Burton would have fared in the role age-wise. He played Alec Leamas as 50yo in 1965, which is about the character’s age in the book - but he was only 40 yet. Of course, men used to age somewhat differently back then.

I’m still really hoping they surprise us, and who knows, they might. We’ve heard it’s down to a shortlist and have heard several names tossed around consistently for a while. There was also a supposed “final four” for Casino Royale:
- Goran Visnjic
- Alex O’Lachlan
- Henry Cavill
- Ewan Stewart
There was at least some truth to two of those. Campbell was said to be really high on Visnjic if I remember correctly. I think Cavill would have ended up getting the part had Craig given a definitive “no” when it came time to make concrete decision on whether to do it or not. I think O’Lachlan screen tested as well. Ewan Stewart would have been almost 50 by the time Casino Royale was released.
Notice that the guy who got the job, and whom EON wanted the entire time, isn’t even on the list.

I seem to recall Craig was rumoured but very close to his official casting and seemingly out of nowhere so it ended up feeling like a rumour that was more likely to be true. Now, that was under a different studio, producers and casting director, so what the new (or not so new in the case of Pascal) do could be choosing someone who’d been on the radar for quite some time.

It’s why I’m trying to not get too attached to any one name. It just creates disappointment in something not happening that probably was never going to, anyway. Which is unfair to the person who actually gets chosen. What will be will be.

Yeah, there’s a feeling of that. His name was out there already so cast members are obviously going to support one of their own. I think Lowden would be a great choice, though. I’ve seen very positive feedback about him, which would indicate a more favourable initial reaction compared to Craig if he got the job. I sense a certain spark a Bond should have. Lots of different routes Amazon could go. The tension is getting unbearable now. So close!

I think this last July they’ve been shooting* in London, distinctly remember some crews around their usual locations and there’ve been numerous people posting reels and stills. That went on through August IIRC - might still be going on for all I know.
But this cannot have been work for season six we’re expecting on air these next few days. This must have been for season seven and/or eight. BOND 26 is not expected to begin its main production and shooting schedule until DUNE 3 premiers in December.
So technically it’s possible Lowden has already wrapped his Slow Horses work. Mick Herron might even have decided on River Cartwright’s fate in the books already. Either way, Apple would certainly profit from the added buzz…
