I saw a recording of the RSC doing Coriolanus from a couple of years ago and was totally floored by how "Bondian " the lead actor was, Sope Dirisu, check him out folks.
Murphy is a great actor and very very funny he would definitely be preferable in my opinion than the bookie inspired front runners of Madison and Hiddleston.
Murphy would make a fine Fleming Bond; colder and darker even than Craig.
But if height is still an issue these days then 5’7.4" (according to Google) is a consideration. Craig is 5’8.3", which is on the shorter side, but it’s certainly no impediment. I mooted Craig a few years before he was cast, so i need to be careful on the double standards front.
But i guess there probably is a line in terms of height below which it’s getting a little ludicrous, though i’m not sure exactly where it should be. It’s never held Cruise back and he’s the shortest of all! It’s a trade off and perhaps Murphy’s suitable screen presence (if we’re remaining dark and dramatic) is well worth it !!!
if they hire a cast of sub 5”7 actors he will look very tall
This is quite spot-on: the bookie industry is an entire grey market segment, independent and self-contained, largely isolated from events in the real world. What real life provides to these machinations is merely the leverage to give players in the game the necessary boost. A headline, a trending buzz on social media, that’s all it takes to kick off the avalanche. And when you consider there are even bets on the bets you need not even come through with anything remotely resembling reality to make a killing.
Actually it’s exactly like stockbroking…

I think it’s a good time to bring this topic back in conversation again.
My vote goes for Tom Hiddleston, after watching BBC’s “The Night Manager”, I am convinced he will make the perfect James Bond. He oozes charm and sophistication and seems more in line with Craig’s.
And since he’s on marvels A-list, it’s sure to draw younger viewers which translates to financial success for our franchise which would mean more movies for us at shorter wait times
here’s one such scene which caught my eye in “The Night Manager” . Watch this from 2:29 onwards
The problem with Hiddleston, who I agree would be fantastic, is that Marvel contract. Now that Marvel has him down for his own TV series, would he be available?
He can do both right ? Like how Rami’s Doing B25 and Mr.Robot and it’s something a lot of other actors in Hollywood do too.
It’s not like every single year, they’ll have a season of Loki, at least I hope not
Hiddleston is old news. Has he booked any important films lately? His Loki-show seems to be the only thing he is still in demand for.
Couple of films, two tv series as Loki, some theatre stuff including a long run in London and New York in Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, where he’s playing the same role Craig did.
Personally, i have to disagree here. Craig’s brutal Bond is the antithesis of the debonair smooth charmer.
Though to be fair Fleming’s Bond was a contradiction of charming, well educated snob and her majesty’s blunt instrument.
Connery has come closest to embodying that contraction of charmer and brute.
I see Craig as the extreme of blunt, brutal bond (he had to be because it had swung so far the other way).
Hiddleston would surely swing it way back to the debonair Gentleman Bond. There’s no great sense of dangerous unpredictability about him and for me that’s a deal breaker.
I genuinely can’t think of an actor who embodies both sides. Hiddleston being so much the gent, Tom Hardy, to use the other often rumoured, being very much the blunt instrument. Cillian Murphy is the closest of the rumoured candidates to have shown both, but even he leans towards the blunt instrument.
This, of course, is all academic as we’re in 2022 before the role is vacant at the earliest, given no-one actually making the films has declared this is Craig’s end.
EDIT: Watching The Living Daylights, Dalton does offer both…but didn’t Americans not take to him?
Nearest I’ve seen is dan Stevens in The Guest and to a lessor extent Luke evens in High Rise.
For the sake of discussion, how about the third Lord Asriel (or Adrien as my autocorrect insisted), following Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig, James McAvoy?
You know, I’ve wondered about McAvoy too…
At first glance one thinks not. But he has the swagger nailed for Bond and he’s proven that he’s incredibly versatile. I’d be very interested to see where he’d take the character. It’d be something fresh for sure.
Of course he’d also make a great villain. When they eventually recast Bond he’d make a fantastic Blofeld.
McAvoy is only 5’ 7" tall. I can’t see anyone that size being cast as Bond.
Said it before, will say it again:
Aaron Taylor Johnson all the way
Indeed! In Nocturnal Animals he displayed the charm and dangerous unpredictability the role needs.
He would be a decent choice, he’s a good actor who has bit of charisma.
